Like a Christian site is going to be completely honest about the atrocities committed by their church... can you find the same info from a site where there's no clear and obvious bias?

Conversion by the sword was the general practice of Charlemange.

I think it's ignorant to think that the issue is "either Christianity was spread by the sword or it wasn't". We have an entire continent full of different peoples in different situations, being presented with different versions of doctrine (I'm not saying they were orthodox and catholic or anything like that, but different missionaries portrayed things differently). Some are going to be converted by the sword regardless of what the church or Christianity in general thought about it. Likewise, not all are going to need the sword to be convinced even if the church had ordered it to be spread that way.

I have my own stance in this discussion, but this is not an argument either way, just stop pretending like there is a yes or no answer to this.

The answer is that for over 1000 years "really bad things could happen to you" if you were contrary to the faith.

Back then .. as now .. Im sure there were some folks converted of their own volition.

Well, actually... Turns out that whole barbarian invasion thing tends to lead to a lot of miscegenation...

Also, just because a religion originated in one part of the world does not mean it can't be accepted and adopted by others.

It's not really that simple. A series of invasions from the east were occurring around the same time that Christianity was being "forced" on the people in these regions. Not only were the old practitioners being converted or killed, but the new people had no real connection with those older religions but every reason to ingratiate themselves with the local Christian authorities. Thus you got a situation where Christianity could spread quite well.
