I'd like to see an American make it. I've heard nothing but good things from Cardinal Raymond Burke. Although he did make Cardinal not too long ago. I kind of like this new trend of non Italian popes though. Up until JP II, they've practically had a monopoly on the Papacy.

i dont care as long as he is a strong Catholic who hates heresy

someone said something about some guy @ the Vatican (dont know who)

    didn't believe in Hell...

    right

never heard of this (but i dont watch TV... don't keep up on such)

he is not Catholic if he denies a dogma of the Church

    he is a heretic

    And should be burned right?

We can't have thoughtcrimes going on.

If an American becomes Pope before a Latin American does, then the Catholic Church just slapped the vast majority of Catholics across the face.

what if it's a Hispanic American? and how did you come up with the "vast majority" of Catholics being from Latin America? i'll admit there's a lot of them down there, but there's around a billion Catholics as i recall.

there's 750 million Latin Americans and they're all Catholic? wikipedia says there's 572,039,894 of them and 70% consider themselves Catholic. 400M is a lot of people, but not a majority.

There's approximately 465 million Latin American Catholics.

That is more than any other region in world.

For the ~70 million Catholics in the US to get a Pope from their number before the nearly 500 million in Latin America would be a giant slap in the face.

it's a huge freaking region. you might as well say the next Secretary General of the UN should be an Arab because there's a lot of people in Asia.

where did you come up with your stats?

Same place you did. Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_by_country

And in terms of size, its not that big. Its smaller than Africa, which incidently also has a larger Catholic population than the US. If they are going to pass over Latin America, then the Pope should come from Africa or Asia.

Europe is overrepresented in terms of Popes and the US doesn't have the numbers.

it doesn't matter. it will be Bertone. there's more to running the Church than being part of it.

I would like to put my name in for nomination of the new pope:

Arizona Cardinal OverDrive (not to be confused with 'St. Louis Cardinal OverDone')

Part of my reforms will include 'Buffalo Hot Wings Friday"

A comet (Pan Star) coming by while electing a new pope! Ancients associated them as harbingers and were signs.....

Remember, it's 'OverDrive' and not 'OverDone.'

Sorry, ......but it's a slow day......I'm off to enjoy the 85 F sunshine and do a little 'wilderness wandering.' in the desert.
