McConnell introduced the measure earlier on Wednesday to fund the remaining parts of the government through February 8, 2019.

Trump admitted he would take responsibility for the shut down so instead of allowing a stop gap spending bill that the Senate and House would agree to that would keep the government funded till Feb 2018 he turned it down. He could have easily demanded the 5 billion in February. but now 800,000 govt workers aren't being paid. There was only 1 shutdown in that past weeks and Trump was responsible

The President is very comfortable with the decision to let Democrats shut the government down rather than accept a deal without proper money in it for the wall.
