Impeachment is a waste of time, energy and money unless a majority of Americans are behind it. The impeachment of Bill Clinton proved this. In fact Bill's approval rose during his trial in the senate. Most Americans didn't want him impeached.

Certainly, impeachment very well could backfire on the democrats. If it is seen as a political vendetta against Trump, Trump comes out looking like the victim and gathers sympathy support. A majority of Americans don't care for Trump which shows up in his approval polls, stuck around 40% for two years and this year's loss of the house. That could change if the Democrats bring up impeachment. Trump was duly elected, impeachment could be seen as a coup sponsored by the democrats to overturn the election.

Been nearly two years now and nothing. Mueller is an extreme Trump hater and if he had anything he would have released it before the election. That ship has sailed.

Agreed. Problem is democrats have convinced their base Trump is the devil and if they don't try to impeach him that base will be enraged.

That said, what about Republican chances with Trump as their spokesman and leading candidate for 2020?

With a Republican Congress Trump has had his way far too much even when it goes against the GOP credo. For example, the Republican Party strongly favors free trade and abhors the liberal concept of protectionist tariffs. When Trump invoked his harsh steel and aluminum tariffs on our trading partners and China, prompting trade wars, some Republicans said "tsk, tsk," but the GOP did nothing.

Recently, Trump usurped Senate powers by appointing Whitaker without Senate confirmation. The Republican leadership in the Senate changed their minds about firing Sessions and went along with the idea. The House intelligence committee was supposed to investigate Russian interference in our election. The committee under the leadership of a Trump lackey, Devin Nunes, investigated the investigators instead.

It is sickening to watch the U.S. Congress roll over and play dead. The 2018 elections indicate that Republicans are making a serious mistake when they act as surrogates for Trump.

The House is much closer to the people than the Senate, and Americans had their say. The 2018 election was a referendum on Trump. Trump and those who represented him lost. The Democratic Party has gained 32 seats so far and appears on track to gain between 35 and 40 once all the counting is complete. The GOP lost seven state houses and eight state legislatures.

Backing Trump was a losing proposition. With the Democrats winning the House, there will be some oversight ... finally, and who knows what will happen when Mueller's report comes out.

Eric Holder ignored a subpoenas from Congress. Trump can do the same.

Congress wants Trump's tax returns? How do they plan to physically take those returns when Trump ignores the request from Congress?

Well.... will you look at who's rooting for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker. None other than Fox news! They think she's too "calculating" to impeach Trump? She is extremely smart. I stopped being a Nancy Pelosi fan in 2009, when she gave the Bush Administration a free pass on their crimes.... all for the sake of "bi-partisanship". She knows that will never work so long as Mitch is on the other side. If she's the speaker, she will hurt Republicans where they most hurt.

The Dems are laughing at such comments not running away.

The voters wisely and saliently rebuked Trump this election.

She lost my support too. And the support of many progressives Because she didn't follow through with punishing the crimes of the Bush administration. If she becomes speaker, we shall see if she has learned anything

If she and the Democrats had the cause they surely would have done. Making things up does not a case make.

Some people still don't seem to grasp this isn't a republican vs democrats issue, it's an elite ruling class vs Trump issue and party affiliation is a non factor

Good question. Where's the evidence? Lots of accusations against Trump but no evidence

With the deck stacked the way it was with so many republican seats up for grabs Trump came out rather nicely. He lost half the seats Obama lost in his first midterm.

Most are founded. Yours about Mueller, however, are not.

    Rosenstein is a Republican.

    Mueller is a Republican.

    Sessions is a Republican.

Whittaker is a toothless incompetent (and a Republican).

Oh, so it's not about "TDS" and Hillary's loss. That's good to know because I saw right through him before he was a candidate.

Right. You said "this isn't a republican vs democrats issue, it's an elite ruling class vs Trump issue"
So you are saying that people who are "vs Trump" include some from the "elite ruling class".

And they have a beef against Trump that isn't "TDS" nor about Hillary's loss. So what is their beef?
