To what possible end benefit would a FOID card be? I see no upside and only downside. I might be in favor of a SSCID -- Supporter of Sanctuary Cities ID; or SFCEMTFMID -- Supporter of Free College Education with Money Taken From the Military ID; or SDACTOIID -- Supporter of Destroying American Culture Through Open Immigration ID. I'd like to round those guys up.

I completely understand the issue. It's you and your alt-lefties who don't understand the 2nd Amendment.

Registering citizens on the premise that they're going to become criminals is prejudicial and will never fly.

This isn't Nazi Germany, there shall be no Yellow Stars.

And the opposition for National ID cards and Voter ID laws isn't mine, its the left's.

They're the ones saying those things would be "impossible".

And now I see I should have used a different word; it wouldn't be impossible it just wouldn't be allowed.

Voter ID laws are "racist", national id cards are "racist" ... these are the reasons the left says we cant have them, I just assumed you knew that argument.

As I stated earlier, Illinois has had a similar FOID card law on the books since 1968, and it has withstood constitutional scrutiny.

I didn't say unconstitutional, however it can be (I'll explain why later), I said it wouldn't fly.

Which under the context of a national program it wouldn't because the desires and viewpoints of Illinois are not the desires and viewpoints of the nation.

Illinois wanted to tag its people with Yellow Stars because Chicago is the murder capital of the nation or "murda cap brut" in the street language of Chicago's gangs.

Other states will not feel the need to do this because it doesn't serve any function other than an additional lawyer of bureaucracy and mechanism of oppression (getting to that next).

Now as to why the FOID card can be and currently is unconstitutional, despite the lack of court rulings (slackers), is the fact that the law says you have to apply for the card, and says how long they have to issue or deny it, but prescribes no remedy for when the State drags its feet.

They'll say you must wait 30 days for the permit to be approved or denied, but then they take half a year to accomplish this task citing "backlogs" and the reason for the backlogs is because the same lawmakers who passed the law cripple the funding and personnel allowed to perform the task.

(California is does this with its licences and permits and, even though they've been bitch slapped a few times for it, the practice continues.)

    This is why its Unconstitutional.

Its similar to if a DMV or tax assessor office dragged its feet in registering you to vote - we don't allow this because of how seriously it infringes upon people's rights.

So, JerryAL, we should have no national firearms program because there is no such point in having one and it will serve only to waste money and deprive people of their rights.

Now I want to ask: Why do you think we should have such a program?
