I am not quite well versed in the methods used in defeating tyranny today on a local level. My local institution of "elected" good ole boys is trying to get a VERY large medical waste incinerator in our county. Does anyone know how to initiate a local recall effort of county commissioners?

I honestly do not know much about it myself. You will likely have to get a set number of signatures on a petition. Every state is different talking to your local election officials would help. A link on the different states:

Yup - be prepared to start a petition drive, and be prepared to dedicate a ton of time and energy to the effort. It's real easy to underestimate the enormous amount of work these initiatives require.

    Good luck, Hafez.

So you want to kill jobs and money coming to your community? You'll be a hit with the neighbors...

Assuming the neighbors are even aware of it.

We had a situation like this a while back where a local city council almost got away with sneaking an incinerator past the public. No doubt, the developer employed the best politicians money could buy...

That sort of thing varies by municipality. You will need to do some homework. You can also go to the meetings and rabble rouse. If you get a large enough group together you may be able to stop it.

That is VERY easy to do at the local level. Almost all truly crooked politics is local because no one pays any attention.

What's so bad about an incinerator being built, between the construction and jobs operating it, I would imagine such should be welcome in any community in this economy...

Yes they are crooked to the core. The rights to the land was signed over to the "catalyst" developmental site so that basically they could sneak any industry into the area.

You have to be joking, we are talking about 52 jobs in exchange for mass pollution of the air and soil at a rate of 90 tons a DAY.

Oh, I see, not in your back yard, where would be a more suitable site? Some poor people's neighborhood? Is there some better alternative to incinerating this material? It will take more than 52 people to build it, but I'm sure some other community would be happy to welcome additional income...

It should not be done, I don't want other Communities medical waste rail roaded into my rural community for "disposal" In fact there are only 33 incinerators in the entire US. The remaining 2000+ incinerators have been shut down. How about you take it in your back yard since you think my back yard is a suitable site.

In fact you can have the 52 jobs as well.

OH and my county is one of the poorest in all of Florida, so what do you have to say now smarta$$

Sounds like a great opportunity to help your community out. Start a petition to have it built in your neighborhood.
