Are Motorcyles really needed ? .In the vast scope of Life,I think so. Motorcycles are everywhere. They've been to War and even Grandma's have been seen Riding them. They are roughly have the fuel cost to operate than the average vehicle.Motorcyle talk may be needless. But not motorcycles, themselves.
In Asian countries it is the main means of personal travel. . .so absolutely. Course they ride 50cc bikes, not 300cc crouch rockets.
My only beef are those who argue against helmets. They allege it is their right to go helmet-less. Fact is, research shows riding without a helmet leads to more head injuries,” No helmet law States show a cost per injury claim as significantly higher than those with helmet laws. Roughly 22% higher. This effects us all, particularly riders, through higher insurance premiums. So in fact.. you have no Constitutional right to go helmet-less and it is within the State's authority to impose safety regulations that effect us all in one way or another. The courts have upheld the authority to impose these laws. Society goes after smokers with a vengeance by taxing tobacco products at 200 - 300% in some locales, but many States allow riders to helmet-less...makes no sense to me. Riding with no helmet imposes higher costs on the rest of us...whether in higher insurance premiums or healthcare. You ride without a helmet? You pay an annual tax for this to compensate for the costs you inflict on society at large.
Besides, It just makes good sense. Why would you not protect yourself the best way you can? I have friends who will argue vehemently about their right to own a gun to protect themselves but (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about helmet and seatbelt laws!
I remember about 6-7 years ago in the middle of summer I used to go to Hooters about once a month for Tuesday Bike night. The parking lot was always jammed packed with bikes. My Harley buddy and his wife also went. This one Tuesday night as we were leaving and were just standing next to our bikes and shooting the breeze. This Biker guy { old gentleman } stopped as he knew my Harley buddy. Was part of a Veterans' Biker club. This guy had on ALL leather.Heavy leather jacket and gloves and leather chaps. He was bundled up like I do when going out for a winter ride. This was a hot summer night.I thought How stupid.I couldn't believe a guy would get so overdressed. My Harley buddy doesn't believe in riding w/o a helmut and never with shorts on.I disagree.Frankly I'm a cruddy rider when uncomfortable. My theory is I want to ride as casual as I can and I also want to Hear noises around me.Therefore I never wear a helmut.I wear goggles and a heavy winter hunting cap on winter rides.I hate Bike helmuts.I also hate Biker motorcycle boots. I wear very used heavy shoes with thick rubber soles but are easy to put on. My Biker Boots are too time consuming putting on. I used to use a pair of work boots like what Construction workers wear but when they get wet, they Stay Wet.When Riding a bike turns into a chore or like homework,I'll give it up.
Anyone riding without a helmet should, when they crash, be left on the side of the road to bleed out unless they have proof of at least $5 million in medical coverage. ATGATT
You are the polar opposite of a Good Samaratian. As in Good Samaratian Law. You like to act as both Judge and Jury. And then ungodly on weekends.
As someone who does not wear a helmet or seat belt, until everyone is insured with auto and health insurance don't worry about what I am doing. Uninsured people raise the cost on us a heck of a lot more.
I have a 300cc Banshee ATV and it's bloody brilliant. I intend to get a Ducati 1198 sometime in the future.
As I wrote about in my last Thread.Ducati just introduced a new model that is comparable to the Triumph Scrambler, and Bonneville,H-D Sportser,Moto Guzzi V7 and Star Bolt. It lists for $ 8495 Is a 6 speed Tubular steel trellis Brembo brakes 803 cc air-cooled 90 degree V-twin { L-twin ?} weighs 410 lb. wet and makes 75 h.p. at 8250 rpm and 50 lb-ft. @ 5750 rpm The Triumph Scrambler makes I believe 59 h.p. My CB 1100 makes 85 h.p. The new H-D Street XG750 at $ 7,499 does not state h.p. But Torque at 44.5 ft-lbs.@ 4000 rpm max with a 6 speed The Ducati may be the ideal bike in that group The Ducati engine is a modified Monster 796 with 11 degree overlap to provide smooth power delievery and user-friendly torque. It also comes with Pirelli rubber like the Ducati Diavel which also uses some kind of 11 degree Testastretta feature only with an oval throttle body instead the Monster's round one.
A full set of leathers is like an extra skin. A biker friend of mine took to wearing them after slamming his bike into the back of the car that pulled in front of him while he was looking back trying to see if he beat the other Harley in the other lane. He got a serious case of road rash and spent a week in the burn ward of the hospital getting his wounds washed with a brush. From then on he looked like the Michellin Man on his bike.
Motorcycles get great gas mileage. http://gas2.org/2014/11/05/11-best-fuel-efficient-motorcycles-can-buy-2015/
I'm against helmet and seatbelt laws, and for gun ownership. That said, I always use my seatbelt, I just don't think it should be required by law. If I were a motorcycle driver, I would wear a helmet, but I don't think it should be required by law.
The main problem I have with helmet laws are that they interfere with natural selection. Seriously, I think people should be able to go helmet-less if they want to, and similarly, I think insurance companies should be able to deny all benefits to those who do and become injured or killed as a result. For myself: I will always wear my helmet. I will require that any passengers I carry wear a helmet. And I will ridicule, at my own peril, those who choose not to.
I just got a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Triglide (trike) for my wife last week. (it was an awesome trade ) Pictures are forthcoming.
they should be fined for cleaning up the brain matter..cant wash it down the sewer anymore it might poison some fish
Real Motorcycle Rider { not driver } are ya. In my state it takes a year with a temporary motorcycle license { still have to pass the written exam and then a quickie state trooper road qualification} in order to have a permanent Motorcycle license where no helmet is reguired. I just remembered { it's been like 15 years or more } that the State Trooper road test was only given like every other Tuesday or Thursday of the month. I just remembered hearing how such a piece of cake it was.It actually was. A bunch of novices waiting to follow this easy ass road course in some vacant Bowling alley lot. They had these pylons put up and you had to go real slow around them cornering. Most riders used really small bikes. So now you know.
Please do not bother posting at this thread. Your intentions have been heard.I am requesting that whomever moderates puts a ban on yer ability to post at this specific thread. Wishing ill will on any biker when they have been in an accident is Unamerican and vile.It should not be tolerated.
l don't know anyone who has ridden a motorcycle consistently for several years who hasn't jacked himself up real bad on one. I also had an orthopedic surgeon one time who had a wall full of photos (no faces shown) in his cast room of some of the motorcycle injuries he had treated. Gruesome. That said, I wouldn't be on a motorcycle unless I was away from city traffic. But I do appreciate motorcyclists who reduce the demand for gas on MY behalf.
I care, because I too was once a boy.a male of a young Age.i happened to ride a bicycle at that time.It had the color of a cucumber {not a late summer Cucumber, More of a early season Boston pickling type}.which also happened to be my late granddaddys choice of garden edibles. He happened to live in a small villa in wine country, north of PeAch acres, where Bob Dillon recorded much of his second album, who at the time also drove a yellow Cadillac.not the yellow these kids drive today, but a much softer tone pleasing to the eyes. Sorry, I've been reading Fools ramblings for years now and I had to try one in his style for my own entertainment
