New proposed bill in Kentucky would force women to view the ultrasound during the abortion, if that abortion is carried out after 10 weeks gestation. Exception would be made for severe fetal conditions and abortions performed out of medical necessity. Kentucky already requires women to be shown a moving ultrasound image before they can have an abortion, and the image has to be described to her.

So imagine the woman is just laying there, with a big screen monitor in front of her, seeing her fetus inside her disintegrate before her eyes, all the while an abortion attendant is describing what's happening on the screen. And with improving technology and falling costs, those images are becoming clearer and clearer. (4D ultrasound is now becoming ubiquitous in regular clinics)

Well at the very least this might make her think twice before deciding to have another abortion.

Heaven forbid the woman feel any guilt over what she did, wouldn't want her to see anything that might disturb her.

I would wonder how this is going to go down in federal court. I have a feeling the state might end up having to subsidize some monetary compensation for these ultrasounds to make it get court approval (although in many cases the ultrasounds would have already been performed anyway during the procedure as part of standard practice).

Well, it's already constitutional to make her see an ultrasound before the abortion.

Link please on the decision. Can't she close her eyes or are toothpicks part of this procedure? I don't especially want to watch my surgical procedures performed. I don't see why she should want to or have to.

Salon: """Mostly, though, these lawmakers assume women are stupid, and aren’t capable of making informed medical decisions. But women aren’t stupid, and invasive ultrasound laws do virtually nothing to change women’s minds about abortion.

According to a comprehensive new study published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, the overwhelming majority of women who seek abortion care do not change their minds after receiving and viewing a sonogram.

Researchers reviewed nearly 16,000 visits to a provider where women were given the option to view their ultrasound image before going forward with an abortion. While a majority chose not to look, women did opt to view the sonogram a little over 40 percent of the time. Among the women who elected to view the image, 98.4 percent still went forward with the abortion. (Ninety nine percent of the women who did not view the ultrasound went forward with the procedure.)""""

    Don't give them ideas...
Anti -choicers would see nothing wrong with doing that to women....

It does resemble a man being forced to watch what he'd go through if he was pregnant...

To many on religious right have no compunction about forcing their religious beliefs on others through physical violence (law). They are a disgrace to Republicanism and should be shunned.
