Pretty sure he meant that some people don't need media to sate or stir their wickedness. All they need is their imaginations.

There is zero evidence that violent videos shape radicalisation

“What particularly stood out was the statement that the terrorist made that he was ‘not a frequent commentator on extreme right-wing sites and YouTube was a significant source of information and inspiration’,” said New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern while discussing the report. “This is a point I plan to make directly to the leadership of YouTube.”

If you are assuming I am a Trump supporter, you assume incorrectly. I voted for Elizabeth II in 2016 and for my Governor Larry Hogan in 2020. Now that we can move away from the Trump red herring, I reiterate, crazy people should be locked up and their actions should not be allowed to affect normal people either physically or through policy limitations.

Assuming they are posting calls to murder anyone of a different race or religion, of course not.

Applying an analogy from Cold War conflict to domestic problems would be tough, if you had actually tried to do that.

    You didn't.

Simply asserting it was wonderfully silly.

Speaking of silly, Nixon had a group of Republicans review intelligence. Each level of intelligence review added about 10% for a CYA fudge factor. Nixon's people typically added about 20%. By the time the intel landed on Nixon's desk, every Russian was 10 feet tall, ate steel for breakfast, and shat bullets.

So Nixon went into the talks with the Russians thinking they had gotten ahead of us. Which was absurd. The result was a mistake. Not in the big picture sense, in a Cold War a lot of things you would think matter really don't matter.

But, as a part of the deal, we weakened sanctions. Which allowed them to buy precision ball bearing machines, the increased accuracy doubled the effectiveness of their nuclear missiles. Among other things, bearings are incredibly useful.

Anyway, Nixon increased the combat effectiveness of the Russian military more than anyone else in history, with the exception of Stalin.

    Sh*t ain't simple.

I bought my first computer, back when dinsaurs roamed the Earth, to play Doom. Oh, I had excuses, to be sure, but that's why.

As a rule, video gamers get their yayas out playing games because they aren't the guys bullying them in school. They're the guys that get bullied.

If video games lead to violence, the streets would be a river of blood. They aren't.

    Old crap is still crap.

That's not entirely accurate! There is literally thousands of links to discussions and studies to that effect.. In a nut shell, the video game and software industry have much to lose if that "Violence Behavior" were to be link to violent video games.. So obviously the one side with the largest war chest continues to silence the claims that it does influence young minds..

I suppose there is a reason for violent games today to be age rated, when back in the day they weren't..

So instead, you turned this into a "Russia!" post. You're the one who should stay on topic. The idea is, that by keeping them in public view albeit stigmatized, is far better(though harder on the liberal conscience) than pushing them into the dark where their radical ideas will not only be unheard, but advanced.

It'd be like saying we want to keep foreign spies hidden instead of in the broad daylight.

That's entirely inaccurate. There are millions of video gamers, if there was a link, it would have resulted in a tidal wave of violence.

Lunging for dumb conspiracy theories is amazing. This has been studied, nothing much has been found. Liberals used to say the same thing about violent tv and movies.

They are rated for political reasons. Game makers are painfully aware that parents can cut into their profits in a big way.

People could organize and radicalize people without a problem before the Internet. Back in the Vietnam War days the left wing "nut cases" handed out so called underground newspapers with instructions for making bombs, etc. In Washington DC -- this was done on the corner of Wisconsin Ave and M. Street. In various cities around the the US you had both the radical left and black separatists selling underground newspapers. Then of course before the Internet there were computer based bulletin board systems accessible by phone line.

And yet now all branches of the military and law enforcement use simulators to train and sharpen reaction times and target selections.. Also, drone attacks/operators are as close to "If not identical" to a video game, with operators conducting missions thousands of miles away in operation rooms behind a monitor and joystick..

You brought up Nixon's detente. You were very wrong.

I actually agree with that, up to a point. If one side starts sabotaging civilisation, and the Right has been doing exactly that, we are long past the point where we can tolerate the insanity.

That's basic tradecraft. Once you identify an agent, you can keep track of him. You don't arrest him until you have to. After he's gone, you get some new guys, and there's always a chance he will slip past you and do real damage.
