Trump has handily defeated the checks and balances applying to the executive branch. He's runnig the executive branch with numerous positions where require confiration, but where the individual is not confirmed and never will be. He's using the department of justice as no more than his defense attorney. He's used his rights of pardon to reward those who break the law to protect the president.

    That is huge.

And, your invoking Hitler actually discounts any argument you might have, as if THAT is the measure of America needed to justify Trump, then you clearly alreay lost.

As for Hitler, let me repeat. The German Army took an oath to Hitler. The American military takes an oath to the Constitution. Also due to the nuclear option introduced and first used by ex-senate majority leader Reid, all of Trump nominees have been confirmed. Without Reid's first use, setting the precedence for its use, all nominees would have required 60 votes for cloture. Taking away the minority party rights have come back to haunt the democrats. What Reid was thinking, I haven't the faintest idea. Did Reid think the Democrats would control the senate forever?

I'll also repeat, we as a country aren't as fragile as you think. So if you think that is justifying Trump, so be it. My other point is congress has ceded so much of their power to the president and other government agencies, departments, that they in reality don't have the envisioned checks on the president as envisioned by the framers. Those in congress of the president's party are more a part of the administration than of the institution of congress. My examples were of members of congress of the president's party trying to give the president all he wants including more and more power. So we have what we have today through decades of congress ceding power to the president.

Why do you think Hitler is of ANY interest?

It's disturbing that you would have to resort to comparisons to Hitler to justify Trump.

The last few years have shown that congress has NO backbone whatsoever and that the president CAN (and has) done whatever he wants without regard to any constraints.

    That is not strength.

Which is no luck at all.

The current two dominant crime gangs didn't innocently happen, and can't be undone by an innocent hope that somehow taking the uncorrupted rejects of either/both crime wings & mooshing them together in a new party will work.

We live in territories created & maintained by the Democrips and Republibloods, and that's by design, not accident.

    Neither party is conservative.
$3T and counting in free money in just the last 3 months. More free money from big spenders coming.

Criminal conservative corporatists doing what they do, and that's transferring wealth to the wealthy while gutting the country.

There's nothing conservative about it or them. Big gov't spenders. Both elitist parties.

One tries to get money to spend by raising taxes.
The other party just raises the debts.

I agree. We really only have one party that pretends to be two. Both parties print money to finance their own interests. And their interests has nothing to do with the American people.

What you are using as your basis, is the involvement of two people, and applying it to one person. It's not to say if it came down to it that Pence wouldn't apply the pardon if he were in a position to do so, or the incoming POTUS of the time, but as it currently stands, Trump cannot pardon himself.

Perhaps a review of the felonies that several people were convicted for, and the basis of the subject they were being questioned about would help clarify the 'why' of it.

One more reason that a third party is desperately needed.

I'm not the one resorting to Hitler arguments.

And, yes I found that reference to be upsetting in the context of a discussion of our government.

My point was there's a difference between taking an oath to the Constitution and an oath to an individual. Wow. All our elected officials and our military take an oath to the constitution. Not to an individual as the German military did prior to and during WWII. That oath to the Constitution makes this country less fragile that you think or have stated. If you can't understand the difference, then I can't help you. Feel free to rant all you want.

Were he to pardon himself it would become a practical matter of what bodies (congress, states, the DOJ, the SC) would oppose that. I absolutely believe that NONE would do so.

Much of our government works for the reason that sufficient people want it to work. We've seen over and over that when there is sufficient interest in our government NOT working, then it does not work - regardless of laws or principles.

Over time, more and more information will come out concerning this president and his actions.

But, there is NO CHANCE that illegal acts will result in ramifications for Trump - with the possible exception of state action, such as that by NY.

    We already went through that.

    We had the Mueller investigation.

    We had the impeachment.

More parties is not going to change that. Those evnts proved numerous acts by this president that were unbelievably serious. The courts even jailed key figures who carried out Trump's orders. We have Roger Stone laughing about how he was convicted of lying to protect the president and got a pardon for doing so.

The issue is whether America believes in the rule of law.

    And, we do not.

That will not be fixed by more parties.

I don't see ANY respect being shown the constitution.

For one, a MAJOR feature touted concerning our government is the set of checks and balances enshrined there.

But, large numbers of the offices requiring confirmation have no such confirmation, the executive branch is TOTALLY free to ignore all subpoenas, and the president claims without any practical dissent that he is not just above all law, but that he is above all questioning.

Sorry, by your "oath" thing sounds good, but it just plain could not be worth less than it is worth today.

The party machines are just too powerful, and work for a bigger machine to control democracy. You must serve the machine to move up its ladder of power, if you don’t you get thrown to the wolves. Makes me think Weinstein doesn’t know a damn thing about politics. A better way to throw a wrench in this machine is to start having leftists run as Republicans, chase the establishment into some sort of do-nothing centrist party that no one will vote for.

    Interesting suggestion.

We need to get the money out of this adventure, too.

When corporations and the wealthy have the majority of the oic (=dollars) then our government simply becomes for sale.

And, even Republicans recognize that dollars = voice. That's why they demanded to see corporations as having protections that were intended for human beings.

We don't have a democracy when the majority (who can't even pay taxes) have such a dramatically smaller chance of being heard, when it takes a law degree to figure out what's being legislated, and what the people have time for is figuring out how to pack the lunch box and get to work.

What I asked, was what people were convicted of felonies for, and what the subject matter was. Not all the events that the Democrats orchestrated. I think those are well known.

No, actually, as far as I've seen, the only thing we have is someone telling us Roger Stone said that.

You are applying the momentary events of a brief 4 year period to the future of this country. It has nothing to do with Trump, the Impeachment, the failure of the impeachment, or Roger Stone.

Think bigger. Think 30 years down the road, 50, 100.... do you want future generations to be forced to choose between who they want their masters to be? Why should they not be able to say I believe in what This person stands for, and have it be of value?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different outcome. THAT is what voting the duopoly is.

    Isn’t that the point?
Keep people working long hours for minimal wages, leaving them just dumb enough to not understand the system they live in.

The only real religion in America is money. With it, you are divine; without it, undesirable. What would you expect the government to look like? The sad thing about this religion is the lack of spiritual fulfillment, it’s an empty hedonism feeding gluttonous horrorshows. Democracy only exists to the extent it can be controlled, America’s news-cycle is nothing more than reality television. At least many people see through this facade, they just aren’t presented with any options to change it.
