I endorse wholeheartedly the DOJ argument on Raines. It's strong and pretty straight forward: Because of the Separation of Powers, the House lacks standing to claim an 'injury' in light of a contention between the parties(IE: For documents.) This would also include GJ material(which should at any rate be classified and protected, as it almost universally is.)

As the DOJ official said: "There's no judicial authority". Period, end of story. The judiciary lacks the authority, and the House lacks the standing.

So, with that argument, what is to stop the Executive Branch from doing anything??

First off...how does "separation of powers" create a lack of standing? And wouldn't the separation of powers enable the third branch of the government to resolve that conflict?

Furthermore, do you recognize the massive potential for executive abuse that agreeing to both of those legal theories creates? Any future president can theoretically order a subordinate to commit an objectively impeachable offense, declare they are immune from testifying, and then declare that the Courts can not get involved either.

The last time we discussed this, I gave you seven different links. And you still decided to remain willfully ignorant and continue to spread baseless claims?

That's the type of **** that will get you added to my ignore list.

Any current president already did that... next time it will be a Dem, and then let the howling begin.

    Too late!

Obama claimed executive privilege during the fast and the furious investigation and I bet you had no problem with that.

Stupid Nancy acted like the impeachment was time critical and they didn’t go the proper court route to get who they wanted to testify.

Now she sit’s on the impeachment like a lost puppy. So much for the time critical impeachment.

The democrats couldn’t possibly play this any worse as Trump poll numbers climb.

Right... keep telling yourself that... feel free to provide a couple as well.

Ain't nothing in this recent one that indicates "climbing"

    SNIP
Based on what you’ve read and heard, do you think there is enough evidence to remove President Trump from office on the following matters?

Both AOI are polling 52% to 45%

Wow ..... you scraped the bottom of your he barrel for that poll. I am surprised it wasn’t on a napkin from Berkeley.

    Let’s make a bet......

If Trump is removed from office, I will leave this forum forever.

Will you do the same if Trump survives?

Your polls of choice is in your favor..... lol

The House of Representatives voted Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for refusing to turn over documents tied to the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting -- a discredited operation that has become a sharp point of contention between Democrats and Republicans in Washington.

Yes, they held him in contempt because he refused to turn over more documents than the 7000 they had already released by that point.

I dont have a problem with trump claiming executive privilege except the extent that he gets witnesses to refuse to answer on the grounds that he might claim executive privilege.

I do however have a problem with trump claiming absolute immunity for all current and former employees while simultaneously claiming that Congress cannot go to the courts for redress.

You mean the proper court route that trump also told the court is impossible?

Trumps approval is no better than it has ever been during his presidency.

42-45% approval and that includes the folks who are "i support him, but that could change." Meanwhile, the percentage of folks who place themselves in the "I will never support trump" is even higher than his approval rating.

I have the same question. Why doesn't he just use "bleach bit". Hillary I'm sure could get him a deal.
On the other hand....the House didn't/ couldn't do their job, so now all the Senate needs to do is hear their claims and vote. That's it. Precisely why they are afraid to send it to the Senate where he will be exonerated.

So he didn't turn over everything, just what HE wanted? And that's okay?

I'm still struggling to understand what about this is okay to you.

Real simple: If you want to claim, and fight over, executive privilege as it relates to specific questions and specific documents, that is fine.

If you want to claim that you and all of your current and former employees are absolutely immune from testifying in the first place or turning over any documents in the first place AND that courts have zero ability to intervene, then that is not fine.

And who was punished for Fast and Furious? Absolutely no one of importance. It was a total circus side show that accomplished nothing. Everyone in charge is living very happy lives and collecting nice pensions. A total joke.

    But... but...

If he had nothing to hide, why not comply?

I bet you'll find that line more than a few times on this board regarding Trump.

And you support this type of behavior evidently, why else would you use a whataboutism? Did you support Nixon and his refusal to supply Congress with the recorded tapes?
