Okay- you have posted something worth discussion.

From all accounts she was a junkie, and that drugs ruined her career.

That being said lets talk about two points:
a) Does her final state as a junkie mean we ignore her earlier successes? She had an incredible voice, and I predict that 30 years from now, people will still be listening to her songs, just as people still listen to Judy Garland's songs today. Which as I write this of course makes the analogy complete. Two performers whose drug addiction ruined their careers and probably ended both of their lives. Yet we still remember Judy Garland's career successes.

b) "As a person she was an abject failure" - what do you base this on? I really don't know- did she abuse children, was she cruel to those who were close to her? That is a huge claim to make just because she was a drug addict. People make mistakes. And drug addiction is one that many, many people have struggled with. I do not accept that a person is an abject failure just because he or she is an addict. There is more to a person than that.

 

I am Italian and from NJ, actually about 20 miles north of the location, I could care less. Few really care about it.

The right has no darlings. They just keep lurching from one candidate to another. As long as you stay out of the Pres race people will say what a wonderful Republican you are. The minute you get into the race and one person somewhere finds out your wife takes the pill or your third cousin who you have never met is gay, or you don't think all rich people should pay no taxes you are called a RINO and run into the ground.

It is smart for Christie, Jeb Bush, and anyone else who is decent to stay out of this mess until Republicans regain their sanity. A couple more disasters at the polls during presidential election will sober them up.

 

Actually, that would be very Taliban, too. They outlawed "artists". I'm guessing they are OK with plumbers even though there is little need for one where there is no running water.

Whitney Houston generated hundreds of millions of dollars worth of economic activity during her short life and paid a boat load of taxes. I guess taxes only count when white people are paying them. Not bad for a "black drughead." Since she was only a "black drughead" I'm sure you must have paid a lot more in taxes and salaries than her.

Whitney Houston was an over-rated pop diva. Sure she had a powerful voice. Too bad she had no musical ability. She sang the kind of crap that appeals to impressionable teenage girls who dream of growing up to be Whitney Houston. In a few months Hollywood will discover some other mediocre half-breed talent and fans will forget all about Whitney Whatshername.

my only problem is the Governor included sorry ass Bruce Springstien in the mix of great musician icons, the guy is as horrible singer as you can get and his songs just plain suck.

atleast Whitney had a powerful voice and actual talent, i still to this day wonder how Bruce even got to where he is with that extremely horrible voice.
