What will the cops do? Show up 15 minutes after the fact and file a report and then ask you where the closest Dunkin Donuts is located?

Cops rarely if ever protect anyone, and the SCOTUS ruled that they have no obligation to either.

I don't know about yours, but my wife is armed.

Here is a cracker jack idea. Have them required to carry HARM insurance. So, when they get too many citations, they cant afford insurance, so they have to quit.

I do as well. Unfortunately, the entertainment establishment has throroughly convinced people that with out government, the world would turn into some post apocolyptic dystopia like The Walking Dead or a Mad Max movie. I put forth we live in dystopia now. Government is more violent than any individual could ever hope to be.

WHERE TF did I say THAT? NO WHERE.

""Then isn't the entirety of the white population today responsible for the violent crime white people commit today ? """

When the wolves bear their teeth, liberal leaders will sacrifice the Police to them. So your scenario is more likely in leftist Democrat cities.

Excellent point. The war on drugs is the bulk of the problem imo and needs to be abandonned.

Up front, that doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

If done improperly, it stands to have precisely the same effect as described in OP- making it too expensive to be a cop will make no one want to be a cop too.

The same place where the bulk of the drugs, crime, violence and police brutality occur.

We should really be looking for a way to reverse this Agenda 21 push to condense everyone into big hives... The problems are not worth the benefits.

agree, we need to get the good cops on board, protecting us from bad cops, as they are the only ones that can keep us safe from bad cops

if good cops are too scared to protect us from bad cops, then something has to change

we have to be careful not to attack good cops, same as cops need to be careful not to attack good protestors\citizens

so are you saying if we don't allow cops to be violent when they should not be, they won't be when we need them to be?

I do agree some cops are adrenalin junkies, but most are just good people wanting to do good for society

the reckless driving would be the crime, not the doing the drugs

arrest people for committing crimes on drugs, no one is saying they should not be

but if someone is sitting on their lawn smoking a joint harming no one, leave them alone

if someone goes to the bar, drinks too much, decides they can't drive and decides to sleep it off in their car, they can be arrested... that is stupid... they are better off risking the drive home - dumb laws are dangerous too

the reason for that is the fear of the cops arresting them for harmlessly sitting in their dorm room getting high on the weekend maybe - this is the problem, we are creating fear of the cops in young people - time to end the war on drugs - let cops be the good guys again

let cops only help the public, not be the ones that harm the public for having a good time or relaxing after a hard week - then people will trust the cops more

a traffic cops job is to give out traffic tickets and only arrest if an outstanding warrant, not search for party drugs on a person or in their car... write the ticket and be on your way, safer for the cop and the pubic

time to end the police State, time to de-militarize our police and end the war on drugs

We have had two cops in the family who decided to pursue different professions. They decided it wasn't worth it with the low pay and risks physically and legally.

What happens when you get your wish. Steven Pinker wrote in his book, The Blank Slate:

I'm not interested in the subtle shift in topic to the "war on drugs." That's not why we are having this discussion and really has nothing to do with the topic other than a distraction from the topic. Floyd passed a counterfeit 20. Is that a victimless crime?

cause you know I am right and that doesn't fit your agenda

    "Floyd passed a counterfeit 20"

did he? and even if they find he did, if I give you a counterfeit 20 and you try to spend it not knowing it's counterfeit, should the cops treat you like Floyd?

no where have I read the cops even checked the $20 to see if it was counterfeit before they killed this man, yet you are willing to slander his name and say he is guilty of doing so without proof?

Obliviously Floyd shouldn't have murdered for passing a counterfeit 20, but I'm not slandering him, that was the actual reason he was put under arrest. But again, that has nothing to do with anything. When tragedies like this occur, people like you try to weaponize if for your own agendas. To be fair, you are not the only one, but you are the one who responded to my comment while trying to change the subject to your ridiculous "war on drugs" angle. It has nothing to do with anything.

Generally no one deserves to die because of the crime they committed. They usually end up getting killed because of actions taken while being arrested long after the event they are being arrested for. We do not know what did or did not occur before Floyd was killed. .

Don't think I would call 75K a year "Low Pay" - and benefits up the yang.

I agree that we should make the working conditions better by getting rid of bad law on the books - thus decreasing negative Police/Citizen interactions. There are other steps that should be taken but that is the main one.

The average pay in Kansas is just over $41,000. That is average. Those that get 75K a year are generally in locations where 75K won't hardly buy you a place to live.

That's starting out ... 75 K is the average after 10 years throughout the US.
