I've been watching this situation for a long time and it finally looks like it could actually happen. With Iran unveiling their nuclear accomplishments we could now be on the verge of another Cold War.

I disagree, Iran is not a superpower. The Soviet Union was a huge conglomeration of nations with a powerful military which included advanced rockets.

Cold War is a big misnomer here, seeing as how the Soviets had their own set of nukes aimed right at the US from Cuba and they almost fired them on us.

They are strategic however, and in a position to intimidate the rest of the middle east, and they have the support of Russia and China. Nothing good can come from this. And in recognition of the incompetence of the O'Bama foreign policy, things will only get worse.

Anybody think Iran's bomb will go off with rated output. The Pakistani and NorK bombs were fizzles. does Iran have enough nuclear material capacity to afford a test program to make sure their bombs explode.

Nuclear weapons are complex and cantankerous things. Why do you suppose the US, USSR, Britain, France, and China spent a lot of time and resources testing nuclear weapons? The answer is...duds. Sometimes they didn't work.

We will probably never know how many really worked and didn't work.

Without proper testing, Iran's nukes are more of a danger to Iran than anybody else.

What happens when Iran launches a nuclear-tipped missile at either Israel or the US and

    a. The missile finds its target (low probability for Iran) and
    b. The bomb gets through the terminal defenses (not a slam-dunk) and
    c. The bomb fails to detonate or only partially detonates

This country got rich from the last Cold War...bring it on, I could use a few bucks since Obama has utterly destroyed our economy and wants to bankrupt us.

Uh... what part of the Cold War made the United States more prosperous? The funding of wars and a huge military industrial complex?

Hyperbole! You must subscribe to the Daily Kos and Huffpo, and all you know about history you learned from Howard Zinn. Am I right? Yes, of coarse I am.

No, you're not right, but of course you're going to claim that you are, I mean, that is how you debate from what I've seen. You're basically saying that we should prop up the military industrial complex because it provides jobs. So? Aren't public jobs the kind of jobs you people are arguing against? Isn't this kind of useless spending what you people are supposed to be against?

Israel will engage in a preemptive strike on Iran before a Cold War, which would imply that Iran would have a nuclear weapon, could ensue. Besides their nuclear program, Iran's military might is vastly inferior to Israel's.

Hey, its a mean ol' world out there. Places like Iran are real men who stand for what they belive, not feminized leftist loser imbeciles like O'Bama and his ilk. They are playing for keeps and we had better be ready for their assaults. You are just spouting leftist talking head political mumbo jumbo with no understanding about which you speak, much less about the critical players in this game of saber attling and brinksman ship, asessing the bluff of Israel and the O'Bama administration, and they are reacting to the sanctions that are obviously hurting them.

I'm not convinced they can pull it off. Iran is a long way from Israel. Do they really have the capability to get their plans there and back? Would they conduct a oneway mission?

What assaults? We have the strongest military in the world, the most nuclear weapons in the world, the strongest navy in the world, and the only "country" in the world that even comes close to matching our GDP is the European Union. What country is going to attack us?

I am not sure. I do know that Israel has some of the best, if not the best missile technology out there. I suspect that they would utilize their precision missiles to target nuclear facilities and key government officials. Then, I think they would engage in a massive sea to land campaign to occupy the nation in the short-run.

If the United States wants to aid in such efforts, I would suggest providing Israel with a MOAB. That will scare the living daylights out of any tyrannical regime.

The calculus changes AFTER Iran successfully tests a nuclear weapon.

    Before that, just hot air.

The missle part, OK, maybe. Seriously? A sea invasion and occupation by Israel? Not likely.

Exactly. Saber rattling and posturing. Iran must be taken seriously. Their world view indicates that if they have a nuclear weapon, even if its a suspect yeild, and can deliver it effectivly, they will.

A terrorist attack, and? What does having a stronger military have to do with preventing terrorism? So far, it hasn't and we have only had problems with terrorism in this country since our involvement in the Middle East. You people need to get a clue and realize our actions are going to have consequences. YOU people are why 3,000 died on 9/11. You neoconservatives have hijacked our foreign policy for your own immoral "moral" goals. Sorry bud, but the world is a bit more complicated and grey than "good vs evil" type scenarios.
