Secret report: Catch and release for low-priority illegals proposed... Border agencys draft policy includes prosecutorial discretion: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency charged with guarding the U.S. borders, has written a secret draft policy that would let its agents catch and release low-priority illegal immigrants rather than bring them in for processing and prosecution. The policy, which has not been signed off on, would be the latest move by the Obama administration to set new priorities for the nations immigration services, and would bring CBP in line with other Homeland Security Department agencies that already use such prosecutorial discretion. The policy was detailed in an internal memo obtained by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith and reviewed by The Washington Times, which confirmed the document. According to the memo, the draft policy provides circumstances when to pursue enforcement actions and includes detailed discussion of several factors CBP personnel should consider when exercising discretion. Opponents say it amounts to another backdoor amnesty for illegal immigrants and could give the administration a tool to pressure Border Patrol agents not to pursue some people. Rather than allow Border Patrol agents to do their job, the Obama administration instead would like them to roll out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants, Mr. Smith said. Crackdown supporters say its too lenient, while the immigrant advocates say its not applied fairly. Young illegal immigrants amnesty could tighten competition for jobs, college: President Obama has just opened a floodgate of opportunity for young illegal immigrants in the United States, but could it squeeze the aspirations of legal Americans in the process? Across the nation Friday, immigrant advocates and Hispanic youth groups hailed Obamas decision to offer legal status to some undocumented immigrants under 30 as a watershed in U.S. immigration history and a long-sought victory for ambitious youths denied a chance to realize the American dream. Under the new policy, as many as 1.4 million undocumented immigrants under age 30 will be able to apply for the amnesty, allowing them to work and attend college legally. To be eligible, they must have been in the United States for five years, have no criminal record, and attend high school or college or be a military veteran. The policy does not provide permanent legal residency, but it protects those who qualify from being deported and gives them a chance to renew their new status every two years. It also does not grant any public benefits, such as Medicare and Medicaid. Federal law already grants all undocumented immigrants the right to a public-school education and emergency hospital care. The new policy could entail additional costs for administration and enforcement, however, and put pressure on state systems of higher education to meet growing demand for slots. But it could also bring new revenue. Many illegal workers are paid in cash, and taxes or other costs are not deducted. One congressional study found that the Dream Act, a stalled proposal to grant legal residency to young immigrants who graduate from high school and attend college or join the military, would add $2.3 billion in tax revenue over 10 years. One of the bad effects of having a Democratic administration is that the media goes from reporting to stenography. Almost everything about this story is fake. There is no executive order. It's a DHS memo. It only applies to those who's cases are already in review and doesn't change the law at all. Obama couldn't have done that without Congress anyway. This is as big a hoax as the war on women.
Your tracking poll proves nothing. Obama's view on immigration has been consistant especially in view of The Dream Act so his executive order (which is something presidents have used in the past) is not inconsistent. The joke is that Romney has once again lied on the Immigration issue just as he's lied on so many political positions in the past. Was it supposed to do anything for him? Even to begin with, there would hardly be any change in the poll numbers. So who cares? As Obama said, it's the right thing to do. And that man who interrupts Obama during his speech is ridiculous. You don't interrupt the PRESIDENT during his written speech! It doesn't matter if you hate the guy or you love the guy! It doesn't matter if he's Democrat or Republican! You don't interrupt him. You show some class and respect his position. You act like an adult.
