I stand by my source regarding guns in Iceland, which thoroughly skews your story which quotes an opinion piece by Marc Champion of Bloomberg. Although I was wrong in saying guns are banned, the majority of guns in Iceland are used for hunting and controls are exceedingly strict.

Once again, both countries you cite demand far stricter gun control than the US. Apparently you are in favor of it.

    11,000 homcides/(300,000,000 firearms + 21,000,000 firearms)=0.0034%

Hopefully you have a better argument than that.

Keep in mind many of those were probably a single background check for multiple firearms.

Just last month I picked up three on a single background check, a lovely Swiss K-11, Mosin Nagant M44, and a Veterli M70/87/15. :)

Do you want to have strict gun control because you think it will reduce crime or enhance public safety (somehow), or do you want strict gun control laws because you are prejudiced against guns themselves and want them banned for private ownership?

I want the same gun control laws that the Founders put out in the late 1700's. That would be no gun control. The Founders had no laws to register guns, there were no laws that forbid women or children from not having guns. In fact, the Militia Act of 1792 even allowed US citizens to have destructive devices like cannons. They didn't force citizens soldiers to have such expensive, rare and cumbersome weapons---but they could still have them if they so wished.
    http://www.constitution.org/mil/mil_act_1792.htm

Crime IS NOT, nor has it ever been been directly related to what gun control laws are in effect all around the world throughout history. Nordic countries like Iceland have the highest standard of living and the lowest crime stats. This is not because of their gun registration, it is because of the people and culture that live there. Morally and culturally debased people like the gangsters in Mexico and American ghettos will not bother obeying any law, gun or otherwise, if they can get away without being punished most of the time.

Gun control laws have been a failure in the US, just as they have been in Brazil, South Africa, Mexico and so many other places. The Gun Control Act of 1968 was of absoultely no use as crime continued up without pause.

    http://www.saf.org/lawreviews/zimring68.htm

In fact there has been no evidence that any federal gun control law has been effective. Crime went way in the mid-1960's mainly because of the liberalization of the criminal justice system. Endless appeals for violent felons became the norm in this time period. Added to criminal friendly laws like Miranda and a progressive media, crime contiued up until the 1990's.

I believe crime would be just as low in Iceland if there were no gun control laws. Crime is still going to be high in Mexico because so many people there support criminals. The gun laws there are a failure.

The prison system in places like the US and the UK has also been a failure. Recidivism rates are around 67%. I wouldn't use a therapy or take a pill that only worked a third of the time. This is what works:

    hang.jpg

All capital murderers and rapists, and all repeat violent felons should hang in a fair and speedy manner. Appeals should never go past 6 months.

While we're at it, let's keep the wimmen barefoot and pregnant and keep them from voting! Same thing with the buhlacks! Make them all slaves again! Put the gooks back in camps where they belong! Bring back the horse and carriage!

Look, dude. It's the 21st century. The Founding Fathers no more intended for Joe ********* to defend his home with a tank and cannon than they expected him to have an arsenal of weapons of murder.

The Founders wanted all free male citizens to have the very best firearms AND be part of militias with an arsenal of weapons to kill (not the same as murder) the enemy.

Crime has been so high in the 21 Century is so many places like Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, Oakland and Mexico because liberals (aka Socialits) have abused the Constitution.

Not a word to defend your pet gun control laws here in the US? Try having faith in something more rational than banning and registering guns. ...like the Easter Bunny.

So they're breaking the law. It doesn't mean all guns are being confiscated, does it? And may I suggest a more credible source than The Daily Caller?

Neither Australia or Canada are confiscating guns. Those are scare tactics. Get back to me when all the guns are confiscated.

May I suggest you go back to read the post? In his support of gun laws in Switzerland and Iceland, he is supporting the gun laws of Switzerland and Iceland, which are strict and reasonable. Apparently, you support those laws too.

Can we go ahead and implement them in the US now?

Show me in the Constitution where it says that.

Since you claim they are not confiscating guns, then what are these articles saying? Through registration they CAN and WILL take whatever guns they want.

I support no laws that infringe upon my Rights. I care little for what other countries do. This ain't Switzerland, that patch of dirt off the coast of a land full of panty-waists, nor is this Canada.
You're probably not even from this country. What's your stake?

    Just a suggestion.

Go after all the guns in the hands of the criminal gangs and let me know how that works out.

Here's a radical idea. Let's observe the US Constitution, and keep from infringing on the rights of American Citizens to keep and bear. That way, the criminals are kept in check by armed Citizens who refuse to be victimized.
Oh. I see that's already covered in the thread where the new Detroit Mayor likes concealed carry. Who would expect that from a politician?
