Why does he have this power? surely only in times of war right? what about civil urest? or just civil protests? my guess is,, since he signed NDAA into law he now has the power to do it from any ol' incident if he so chooses....like say another false flag attack? or maybe an issue on the border? what say you? do you think Obama deserves to have this power at this time?

Indeed he does have the power via executive order. But it was written to be used only in extreme situations of national security. "The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive (National Security Presidential Directive NSPD 51/Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-20, sometimes called simply "Executive Directive 51" for short), created and signed by United States President George W. Bush on May 4, 2007, is a Presidential Directive which claims power to execute procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a "catastrophic emergency". Such an emergency is construed as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions." Ultimately though, what really matters is what the boots on the ground decide to do, and the Constitution is just a piece of paper. A really good one, but still, just a piece of paper. If the powers that be are decided that suspending the elections is the only way to prevent chaos, they just might do it. And do you really think that there would be all that many Americans that would peel themselves away from the tv and risk death to oppose them? The age of protest is over, if you haven't noticed.

This is just fear mongering. A few people on the left said Bush was going to do this in 2008. Had no validity then or now. The US even held election on schedule in 1864 durring Civil War (only the Union States voted). Same for 1944 durring WWII.
