Oh gawd......ya suppose Obama learned his lesson here? Probably not. Every country has their own traditions and a protocol to follow that other leaders are told about and are expected to abide by. I remember reading about the Obamas going to England and meeting QE. 2 requests b/f meeting the queen are easy to understand. 1 - women are asked not to wear sweaters. MO wore a sweater. 2 - It's stated very simply - 'do not touch the queen'....there was a pix of MO and the queen w/MO draping her arm around the queen.....

There are several ways how statesmen could greet each other during official visits. I guess Obama settled on a hug as a way to soften up the Communist Cuba which is long known for marginalizing gays. Castro on the other hand gestured by rejecting the hug, that he considered the sanctions unjust from the getco and that there would be no strings attached to lifting them.
