It is a shame that some people stuff themselves while others can't find a morsel of grub. I'm an example. Last night, I ate a 16 oz. sirloin steak, along with a caesar salad, french fries, buttery bread rolls, and chocolate cake. And this was in a one hour period. It shows; I am obese and weigh nearly 370 lbs. I wish I could surgically remove part of myself and attach it to someone who is starving to help them, but also to make myself look better. What can be done to equalize obesity and starvation in the world? What can we do?
It's somewhat of a self-solving problem. As medical expenses rise, people are slowly becoming more health conscious. While obesity is rising, it's not as much a matter of eating as it is a lack of exercise. Plenty of people are on diets, which can help, but exercise is even more important. One thing that has started to help things some is that certain employers have devoted time to encouraging employees to exercise. There's even one employer in my state that requires its employees to spend a half hour of every weekday to exercise. This is done to reduce medical costs for the company and to improve the general attitudes of employees as well. When you're more fit, you do tend to feel better.
You nothing you, personally, could do... perhaps other than taking money you'd use to eat and donate it to a charity. Though with all respect, I'd highly suggest you reduce your weight. The plethora of health problems that will inevitably result over time are costly and painful.
At the company I'm referencing, they have facilities. http://www.sas.com/ It's a really good company to work for, but not surprisingly, there's a lot of competition to land a job there. My employer doesn't have this policy, but they do have a small gym open to all employees.
You could start by reducing your own portion sizes, and become conscious of the amount of food that you throw out every week due to spoilage etc. Reducing the amount of meat in your diet would also help. Grow your own, increasing the total supply of food. Give money to a charity that helps to build sustainable communities in the third world. Bothar is a very good Irish charity that works by providing the animals, seeds and training to help families feed themselves and provide goods that they can sell in local markets, I am sure that there are similar charities in the US.
