I am about halfway through The Origins of Totalitarianism. The systematic atomization of human society into a mass of disconnected individuals seems to be required before dictator can impose totalitarian rule. Orwell's description of totalitarianism was understated fiction. Arendt dissects the even uglier reality.

"Mass atomization in Soviet society was achieved by the skillful use of
repeated purges which invariably precede actual group liquidation. In order
to destroy all social and family ties, the purges are conducted in such a way
as to threaten with the same fate the defendant and all his ordinary relations,

your ruin simply because they are in danger of their own lives. In the last
analysis, it has been through the development of this device to its farthest

atomized and individualized society the like of which we have
never seen before and which events or catastrophes alone would hardly
have brought about."

It seems she's saying that first there must be chaos and/or anarchy before totalitarian rule can be imposed. The US actually lucked out after winning the Revolution and still maintaining order. France nor Russia were that lucky. Germany had the chaos of a depression, but still maintained order all the way to a fascist state so the theory isn't perfect.

The book was not literal. Orwell wrote a book explaining all this. He was familiar with the lining up, the rationing, and yes, the propaganda of the UK.

Lying under oath is perjury and perjury is a criminal offense which has put a lot of people in jail. What perjury has Strzok and Hillary done? We all know Bill perjured himself and was disbarred for it. I think the only reason he didn't go to jail was because he was President.
