Conservatives are about practicalities and evolution beyond the bigotries of the past.

Progressives are mired in repetition of past errors, and cannot evolve beyond these things as they should have in the 21stC. They are the modern conservatives, and Conservatives are the modern progressives.

The roles have been reversing for years now, and I know that you know this.

I seriously doubt it. This isn't 1965 any more. My 1/2 Latino adopted daughter makes nearly 6 figures as a service writer for Porsche. Her third generation Latino Husband works for the same company's Mercedes branch ordering parts. He makes mid five figures.

No one I know personally gives a tinker's dam about any ones skin color. All they care about is whether or not they can solve the problem they need dealt with. There is a black guy at the grocery store who is the frozen foods stock manager. Dude is sharp as a tack, and works his ass off. That's why he's the manager. No one gives a damn that he happens to be Black.

The only people I know that give a damn about skin color are all Democrats.

 

This doesn't match the very definitions of "conservative" and "progressive".

Progressives ARE for progress.

Conservatives ARE for harking to past beliefs, hesitant to change.

And that is absolutely what we see in America today.

 

I'm seriously glad to hear of your experience.

However, one can not claim it is representative of the USA.

We have LEGISLATORS promoting and even taking part in insurrection.

We have LEGISLATORS who are issuing death threats on the basis of issues of race, ethnicity and skin color.

We have police departments that are absolutely FINE with shooting black folks, and with significant numbers in the general population being OK with that.

We have employment and education stats, comparisons of schools, and metrics in other areas that demonstrate that we are NOT race neutral or gender neutral. Large constituencies do not believe in equal opportunity.

And, a significant reason for that is that the legislative, judiciary and executive candidates presented by the political machinery are THOSE KIND OF PEOPLE.

 

They could call themselves The Gods of All Things, and it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference. "Progressive" very much in name only.
Their schtick is deeply regressive, and thoroughly inflexible. There is no real interest in progress, there is only interest in the sanctified fix.

Genuine progressivism means accepting ANY fix which advances the human condition - whether it aligns with some momentary political ideology or not.

Ergo - role reversal. Today's Conservatives are far more about progress, than today's Progressives.

Again, I didn't say don't make a change. I said don't discriminate based on gender or race. And if you think that is the only way change can be made, I don't don't what else to say to that sort of sexism/racism.

It is Orwellian. Anybody who opposes banning people based on gender or race is declared sexist/racist. War is peace. Up is down. Anti-Racism is Racism.

Can't be, cons basic tenet is preservation of the status quo, they resist change whenever possible.

 

What if the norm becomes that sexism and racism are taboo? Then isn't it conservative to oppose sexism and racism? Change isn't always for the better.

 

I honestly don't understand this position at all. I've tried to see it from both sides and I just don't get it.

People are fussing about this, CRT, more minorities in tv commercials, print ads, etc..

Why is it that being blatantly discriminatory against EVERYONE outside of heterosexual white males and females has been acceptable since this country was founded but it's some kind of egregious attack on the demographic that has had all the recognition and representation for others to be recognized and represented also?

 

It IS NOT acceptable to be blatantly discriminatory against ANYONE based on their race, gender, or sexual orientation. If you feel otherwise, it is you who is being sexist/racist. And it is you who is thinking as white supremacists think, not those of us who wish to get beyond treating people differently based on sex/race.

 

More unsupportable horse crap. No one supported an insurrection nor was there an insurrection. Seeking legal means to challenge an election is no more support for an insurrection today than it was when the Democrats did the same thing in 2000, 2004, & 2016.
