O'Rourke says it's 'hard' to believe Trump supporters aren't racist

It's hard to believe that Beto isn’t an idiot.

 

If Trump barely used Twitter, only allowing a handler to translate his thoughts and only commented on important country defining subjects, it would be a completely different ball game.

 

Certainly, Beto O'Rourke is now desperate; he has gone from a first-tier candidate to an apparent also-run.

But his scathing attack upon roughly half the country--those of us whom Hillary Clinton dismissed as mere "deplorables"--is probably not the best tactic imaginable.

Even if it were to help him in the primaries (and that is surely questionable); and if he were then to go on and win the Democratic nomination (which seems quite farfetched); he could certainly not win the general election by having offended such an enormous portion of the electorate.

And just winning the Democratic nomination--and then nothing more--is really not the intended endgame.

If anyone should have any doubts about this, just ask Hillary Clinton...

 

I don't think they have any idea how bad 2020 is looking for them.

She was on the money back then with her 50% figure. That basket of deplorables just keeps getting more full of deplorables as the rest jumped off. IMO, its more like 65-70% now. I hope our next nominee says the same thing. I don't want their votes. I don't want our nominee to do ANYTHING to attract the Trump supporters of today. They are a pestilence, a plague on the body politic. Why allow our party to be infected or compromised by the kind of people who still support Donald Trump? .

What 'kind' of people are they? The electrician that wires your home? The plumber that fixes your pipes? etc

 

Your party is a carrier of the infection that is destroying American politics.

 

I assume electricians come in several sorts. Some are smart, and decent, and hate being lied to, and they don't appreciate being turned against each other based on race, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity. Others are dumb, indecent, don't care if they are lied to, and they can't handle people who are of a different race, orientation, religion, or ethnicity. Same is true of plumbers. The ones I want in my political party are the former, not the latter.

Oh I didn't. I recognize there may still be between 30-35% of todays' trump supporters, who are not deplorables and don't fall into more than of the above mentioned categories( by definition they all don't mind being lied to, or they would have already left the Trump express) but my sense is that I was probably a little generous.
