I've always lived in big cities and have never had or wanted a car because I've never felt the need for one, am I nuts?
Not if you don't need the headache of one and have options. I live in the country so I have 2 cars and the dog has a truck.
Ah but what'll you do when the oil runs out "sometime this century" according to industry experts? Bikes don't need no steenkin gasoline when the zombie apocalypse comes.. Here's my baby, it's what's called a "Hybrid" bike meaning midway between a lightweight racer and a heavyweight mountain bike so I get the best of both worlds, gobbling up the miles on open roads and forest tracks alike, ha ha.. I deliberately went in for the dull silver-grey colour because it'll be less conspicuous to prying eyes when camping. (I plan to camp outside the city at first, then go back in when the zombs have finished eating each other) Stock shots. When you gotta go... PS- The pics are from a thread I started called "The Bike is King" over at this survivalist forum under my name 'Gamer'- http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=55780.0
Oh right. I'm only going by what I've seen in your movies, where some guy in urgent need of a car (auto ) wanders into a second-hand car dealership the size of Texas and buys one seemingly with the small change in his pocket. But then just like here - I guess there are used cars, and there are tarted up old bangers.
You can probably pick up some junk box for $500 off Craigs List or something, but that probably wouldn't be a very reliable mode of transportation.
You mean the engine might blow up before I got home from the dealership? Been there, done that! Not recently though!
Right, Jesus warns us the apocalypse could be rough- "Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now" (Matt 24:20)
Every time I've ever paid off a car loan I go out and trade it in for another one. And I've also done that a few times when there are still a few payments to go. I'm an incorrigible impulse buyer!
That's me also. My company recently forced me to accept the company car instead of receiving a car allowance. I plan to use this situation to quit buying myself cars. I'll get a new car from work every 3 years or so, so I will have less urge to buy myself a new car. My wife is happy with her crew cab V8 pickup and we will keep it until the wheels fall off. My kids drive vehicles that we or they can pay cash for. Usually that means that I payed a vehicle off and gave/sold it to them in the past. My middle son bought a truck from his uncle and payed $5000 cash. He still lives at home, but saves every penny he makes. He could pay cash for a new car if he wanted to. Not bad for a 21 year old. I'd rather he had gone to college, but I can't make him go.
Thanks! - - - Updated - - - Why? I hate spending that kind of $$. As long as my car looks decent and gets me to where I need to go, then I'm good to go!
In a few words - gizmos and other 'boy's toys', all the latest high-spec bells, whistles and creature comforts, impressing the neighbours with the updated registration number-plates? (No, not really the registration thing - being a modest sort of cove I always put the car back in the garage as quick as I can. )
Well, unless you're rich, I would consider that a waste of money. There are better things to buy, like dresses and shoes! - - - Updated - - - Umm. Let me think about that. No.
