You want to blame someone, blame the Turks, the French and the Brits. They're the one who drew those lines on the map. They could have drawn one more and create a palestinian country but they chose not to. Their decision were totaly arbitrary to please some regional compliant despot. There are really no reason for Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the KSA or UAE to even have the borders that they have. All of them were reconstituted arbitrarly by the French and Brits following WW1.

Doesn't change a thing. Egypt was hostile to Israel from its creation. It would have been foolish for israel to sit on their asses and do nothing when an hostile nation masses it's armored division a few mile from your border.
