Papadopoulos was in contact with senior members of Trump's campaign staff

“Few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

White House spokesperson, Sarah Sanders, had this to say about Papadopoulos. "It was extremely limited. It was a volunteer position."

"He reached out and nothing happened beyond that. Which I think shows, one, his level of importance in the campaign; and two, shows what little role he had within coordinating anything officially for the campaign," she added.

Strange, Trump at first was relieved that the indictments of Manafort and Gates provided "no collusion."

"A few minutes later, court documents were unsealed showing that George Papadopoulos, an unpaid foreign policy adviser on Trump’s campaign, pleaded guilty to making a false statement to the FBI about his efforts to broker a relationship between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The case provides the clearest evidence yet of links between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials," Washington Post.

Trump’s resulting anger Monday was palpable and the mood in the corridors of the White House was one of weariness and fear of the unknown.

The realization that Papadopoulos was a low level, unpaid volunteer has no bearing. The fact that he is an informant, probably since July, does. Judge Napolitano on Fox News speculated that he had been wired. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 and the judge sealed the proceedings so that Papadopoulos could gather evidence. This is what is keeping Trump awake at nights.

Another important distinction is the undeniable fact the Papadopoulos was in contact with some very important people. Newly released court documents show that Trump's foreign policy adviser had communicated with several senior campaign officials about his outreach to the Russian government over a period of months.

Papadopoulos emailed campaign supervisor Sam Clovis and other campaign officials about a March 24, 2016, meeting he had in London with a professor who had Russian leanings. Clovis responded that he would “work it through the campaign,” adding, “great work,” according to court documents.

"In August 2016, Clovis responded to efforts by Papadopoulos to organize an “off the record” meeting with Russian officials. “I would encourage you” and another foreign policy adviser to the campaign to “make the trip, if it is feasible,” Clovis wrote," Washington Post.

Papadopoulos was also in contact with onetime campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. The emails were among more than 20,000 pages that the Trump campaign turned over to congressional committees after review by White House and defense lawyers, according to the Post.

Papadopoulos wrote to Lewandowski several times to let him know that the Russians were interested in forging a relationship with the campaign, court filings show.

In one email on April 27, 2016, Papadopoulos wrote “to discuss Russia’s interest in hosting Mr. Trump.”

The court filings indicate that Papadopoulos emailed “another high-ranking campaign official” on May 21, 2016, with the subject line “Request from Russia to meet Mr. Trump.”
This official has been identified as Paul Manafort.

"The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father. This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

"Thanks Rob I appreciate that. I am on the road at the moment but perhaps I just speak to Emin first. Seems we have some time and if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer. Could we do a call first thing next week when I am back?
    Best,
    Don"

Six days later, on June 9, 2016, Donald Trump, Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager at the time, met with four Russian operatives in Trump Tower.

By the merest of coincidence that was exactly what Papadopoulos was trying to arrange.

    It is not a coincidence.

I suspect Trump supporters want nothing to do with this thread.

I don't blame them. It is direct evidence Trump's campaign staff collaborated with the Russians.

Interestingly..when Trump (supposedly jokingly) called for Russia to release Clinton's e-mails...he already knew that they had hacked them.

The viciousness by the WH and the Alt Righties toward Papadapolous, compared to Manafort or Gates, startles by its intensity.

Trump is afraid. Very afraid. He should be.

The people to whom Papa talked will be called in (I am sure several already have been interrogated) and told what's what.

Remember, Alt Right: Mueller never leaks. So much more is to come.

Sure it is. Trump turned over Papadopolous emails. He knows what they reveal. Nothing. Papadopolous talked a big game, and some staff members said sure, "go get 'em tiger!" Nothing. Papadopolous only met with a professor. He asked the professor to put him in contact with the Russian ministry of foreign affairs. Didn't happen. Nothing. Papadopolous is a liar, and plead guilty to being a liar. Nothing.

Yeah it's our weariness and fear of the unknown.

Frankly I'm just getting a headache from laughing at this nonsense.

The guy was charged with lying, and that's it.

He was an unpaid volunteer from the Ben Carson campaign.

He tried to set up a meeting between some Russian tart and the Trump campaign.

    The meeting never took place.

He is getting between 0 and 6 months in jail and possibly a $500 to $9500 fine for fibbing to the FBI.

He is not charged with any other crime.

    *yawn*

Trump began the hour-long meeting by pulling out a list of some of his foreign policy advisers.

"Walid Phares, who you probably know. PhD, adviser to the House of Representatives. He’s a counterterrorism expert," Trump said. "Carter Page, PhD. George Papadopoulos. He’s an oil and energy consultant. Excellent guy. The honorable Joe Schmitz, [was] inspector general at the Department of Defense. General Keith Kellogg. And I have quite a few more. But that’s a group of some of the people that we are dealing with. We have many other people in different aspects of what we do. But that’s a pretty representative group."

Papadopoulos directs an international energy center at the London Center of International Law Practice. He previously advised the presidential campaign of Ben Carson and worked as a research fellow at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington.

His sentence is so light because he is a cooperating witness. That's a message to those who think they can be uncooperative.

And as of yet there is no evidence as to whether those meetings took place. They (the Trump campaign) certainly were planning them

Still no crime. Read the statutes. The foreign nationals broke the law by offering, the info was not accepted.

Your claim was that no information was accepted. You admit it was solicited and presented. You have only the word of those presenting it that it wasn't accepted.

Or was there some real proof you showed us that I missed...

Were they planning meetings with Russia? Were they doing oppo research?

I thought that wasn't a crime? Are we back to calling it collusion again?

It is patently obvious Trump is guilty as hell. For crying out loud he practically admitted it during the campaign. He praised Russia for their interference and asked for more of the same. At the height of the campaign he appeared on RT, a Russian propaganda television network and severely criticized the American President.

Trump is scared to death.of Papa. What does he know? Who did he talk to? Was he wired?

And he is scared to death of Mueller, Trump's opposite. Trump wears his emotions on his sleeve. He has a big mouth. You always know where Trump stands because he makes a big show of it. The White House leaks like sieve because Trump is not liked or respected.

Mueller is quiet. He says nothing. Nothing is leaking from his investigation. Trump has no idea where Mueller is going, how much he knows, or what his intentions are. Trump is completely in the dark where Mueller is concerned. That makes Trump very nervous.

Combine all that with his guilt and you have a man is going crazy and he acts like it. The morning after a human tragedy, Trump played politics, the very worst mistake a President could possibly make.

It is not the emails that will convict Trump. They only establish Papa's credentials within the Trump organization.

It is Papa's testimony that will nail Trump because it will lead Mueller up the ladder.

You don't seem to understand even though I spelled it out in the OP. Papa was encouraged to proceed. What Papa was trying to do eventually occurred, a meeting between top officials within the Trump campaign. Those top officials included Trump's son, Trump's son-in-law, and Trump's campaign manager meeting with Russian operatives in Trump Tower.

I can understand you wanting to forget that part.

You seem to be alleging entrapment ... Not a new tactic for Mueller, but I suspect this theory is the work of an overactive imagination.

Sorry 2+2 does not equal 25. His sentence is so light because that's what the law specifies.
