This thread is for partisan talking points in general that clearly don't make any sense. Now I know certain members of this forum(themselves likely afflicted with partisan derangement syndrome) will list things that don't belong, and they will defend things that don't deserve defending!! But I will start with one.

"Liberals want class warfare" or "that is class warfare" or anything about class warfare and modern American society!!

Quite clearly this is a clever piece of propaganda passed down from on high, to the unthinking worker bees of the Republican party!! Whenever anyone says, we should go back to the Clinton era tax rate, they will tell people "enough of this class warfare." Now that is clever, and may be convincing to people who don't actually consider what this means, but when one does actually consider it, it becomes clear that it is entirely nonsensical. Class warfare quite literally means exactly that, class warfare. It is when the working class rise up, kill the rich and take all their property!! What modern American liberals want for the most part, is to raise the marginal tax rate by a few percentage points, which wouldn't even significantly affect the effective tax rate those people actually pay!! And we are meant to believe that is the equivalent to killing and robbing all rich people? It would be hard for some one not to realize how truly absurd that is!!

People are encouraged to respond to my example or post examples of their own!! However try to make them obvious(there are examples on both sides), otherwise it sort of defeats the purpose of this thread!!

    Its Bush's fault.

Its the do nothing republicans in the House.

It was worse than we expected.

    It takes more time.

It will be a hard road.

Do you care to explain any of those? I can understand how claiming everything is Bush's fault even 3 years after his presidency has been over, doesn't always make sense. But surely you must concede some things ARE Bush's fault, and therefore you may want to expand on why you believe it doesn't make sense to blame an 8 year president for any problem ever!!

That isn't a partisan talking point!! Do you have anything specific the birthers have said that you have found to be particularly senseless?

All the talking points I listed can be catergorized into one group called "excuses." They are used on a rotational basis to prevent Obama from having to accept responsibility for any negative issues facing the nation today.

Yes, but the fact that they are excuses, doesn't mean they don't make sense. In fact it makes a lot of sense to blame Bush for many of the problems this country currently faces, because he is at fault. However, what doesn't make sense is to then forgive all Obama's failures because Bush was even more terrible, or because he it is just too hard to fix all Bush's mistakes. Liberals elected him with that purpose in mind, if he is incapable of doing it, then shouldn't they criticize him for that?

PS. I just explained your position on at least one of those in a coherent and substantive manner. Maybe you can do the same for the others?

The last 2 I don't understand, but the others are quite good examples!! Especially like the idea of a welfare queen!! :giggle:

What is absurd how workers make the bed to that people that would smash them without compassion.

There is a saying that is something like that: "There is nothing more stupid than worker of rights"

I have never heard that saying. And while I do agree with your first part to a large extent, it doesn't really address the point of this thread.

"Many conservatives wallowed in liberalism before thinking it all out for themselves."

"Liberals when they're young - Conservatives when they grow up."

Intended to make Conservatives feel superior when all else fails. :)

That is a good one!! The whole you will grow out of the liberalism, as if there aren't an enormous number of older liberals!!

PS. I was actually more conservative when I was younger, and I have gotten more liberal as I have gotten older. That tired old meme, is silly.

I used to literally VOTE as a Conservative. Seems they moved so far to the "Right", I had to latch onto some sanity... most of it was where the Liberals were.

Another one I like, "Everyone could be rich if they just worked hard." :fart:

As if there aren't Millions(Billions?) of people across the globe who work very hard, and yet aren't rich!! Similarly, as if there aren't millions of Americans alone who that isn't true for. And of course, that doesn't even take into account the fact that the system relies on having the vast majority of the population acting as the workforce. If they all stopped, and decided to become rich(as you can do apparently), who would do all the work? Or would we just pay electricians millions because they work really hard. Don't we sometimes already do that, and aren't we told that unions are evil for trying to get hard working electricians a decent wage? It is all so confusing!!

If you disagree with President Obama's policies, it must be due too the fact that he's black, is my favorite partisan talking point.

I will certainly grant you that one!! While there may be some people who legitimately don't like Obama because of his race, the vast majority of opposition of to Obama's presidency has nothing to do with race!! It is just a convenient way to explain away any criticism. Good one.

The wealthy earned their wealth. The poor made poor choices.

If you had nothing to hide, you wouldn't mind being spied on.

Marijuana just doesn't hold the same cultural value in America that beer does, and never will.

This is a great topic! My hat's off to the OP. But, we could also just use it to do what many of us do best - take potshots at strawmen that we mold into the "other side". I think I'll pass, though - tempting as that possibility may be.

"We are headed for another ice age. Well ok, we were wrong about the ice age, but we're dead on about this global warming stuff. Ok, we were wrong about the ice age and global warming, so we're going to just call it climate change, and still try to tax you."
