The key to a good pecan pie is the filling. Most filling are out of the can gof course the key to any good pie is the crust. The crust should be flaky and lite. Not heavy and hard.
Well obviously. There are only 2 components to a pie, the filling and the crust. That's like saying the keys to a good peanut butter sandwich is the peanut butter and bread.
I'll be visiting my sister over Thanksgiving. That means, a vegan dinner with sugar free desserts. God help us all.
Oh man....good luck with the tofu turkey. Just think, prison inmates will probably be eating better this Holiday.
LOL Im sitting here trying to figure out how I say it. Ive heard it as pah-khan. I say it pah-can or pee-can. Happy Thanksgiving. Would you like a nice slice of pee-can pie? lol We dont eat much pee-can pie up north.
Sounds a lot like mine, without the bourbon. I've got grandchildren eating it, so can't do that. I agree, pecan pie is the best. Apple crumb pie is a close second, though.
I agree about the turkey but as far as the sugar free pies go. I make them all the time and you can't tell the difference.
Oh Yeah ... are we talkin' like the Ritz cracker Mock Apple Pie. Ya can't fool me.I can tell store bought from the real deal. Not that it makes a fig of a difference. The local Amish used to set up shop in the entrance hall to our old Wal*Mart about 10 years ago. The Amish woman wore their long { down to ankle } Black Peasant garb and white bonnets. They sold only bread stuff and pastry plus brownies.Their prices weren't cheap. In fact rather expensive.I occassionally bought a pastry.Their food consisted of a lot of dough, sugar & butter, thus explaining to an Amish woman,as to why they were ALL heavy set if not Lumpy overweight. Those food items really weren't all that good. They looked homemade but didn't taste as good as homemade should. If that makes any sense. Like sometimes the flaky pastry was clumpy as if made in a hurry and it crumbled off in gobs. You could see where the dough wasn't kneaded properly and where butter was added sloppily. If that helps any.
Heaven forbid!! Never any pecan pie???? Ooohh, I wish we were closer and I would make you one. You've been missing out.
Same here. Never had a Pecan for that matter. I like pumpkin pies and almonds, although never had almonds on a pumpkin pie.
