The vetting is mostly done by the country of origin. The names are then sent to the US for agreement, but who does very little further vetting. .

Simple - their deaths allow you to push an otherwise unsellable agenda.
To you, these people aren't victims, they are opportunity.

What in hell does the "left" have to do with this shooting?

So we should ban guns and force our lunatics to resort to suicide bombs. Guns don't kill people- people kill people. Sometimes they choose to use guns.
However, the intent to kill IS NOT dependent on the availability of guns- because there are thousands of weapons capable of killing multiple people.
All of those weapons are moot issues if the intent to kill is not present in a person. Like the majority of misdirected political efforts, controlling guns will not control murder- only the choice of weapons will be affected, and a "war against guns" will be about as successful at the war against drugs.

I wonder what will happen if people ever learn from experience, and quit making the same mistakes over and over, thinking that next time it will work.

Like any other shooting - the use of its victims to further its agenda.

I'm pretty sure you're also not allowed to shoot at people in Air Force bases with it either And yet, here we are... Only possible solution: don't make guns so easy to acquire. Or, even better, make them impossible to acquire.

It does not say how they are vetted or who does it.. It only says what they are vetted for.

When a person is selected for officer training and flight training in the US, the FBI does an investigation where they talk to relatives, friends and neighbors. There is no practical way to do that for foreign nationals. A US citizen who has a clean record, but has done extensive foriegn travel may not be recommended for a clearance because it is impossible to adequately investigate him..

On a street in the US, there is a pretty good chance that their will be someone there who has a weapon who is not law enforcement or some other group which routinely carries weapons.

That is not true on a military base. Weapons are carried only by a very select group. They are essentially gun free zones. In Air Force married quarters areas where guns can be stored, they cannot be carried for personal protection. They can only be carried to and from locations where guns are used such as firing ranges.

Two big problems. One is the Second Amendment. That other is likely even more impossible to overcome. The guns are already here and it will take years, if not decades to get rid of them. In the meantime, it puts the law abiding at risk because the law breakers will not give up their guns as easily. I look at my own situation. We would be isolated and defenseless without guns.

It will never be impossible to acquire guns.

Dude every gun on a military base in the US except those held by the MPs is under lock and key. The MP's are generally tasked with guarding the perimeter so once you're inside that your likelihood of running into some one else with a gun is somewhere between slim and none. Thanks though for letting us know that your just another leftist who knows diddily squat about the military.

There are about 83 countries in the world with higher homicide rates than the US(1) and as any experienced traveler knows, you're not perfectly safe anywhere on this planet.

Has to do with the fact that they aren't allowed to. In two years and seven months in the US military the only place I ever had ready access to a rifle and ammunition was on bases in Vietnam, a war zone. I did guard a bunch of empty oil and gas cans with an unloaded M-16 in Germany but an unload M-16 sans even a bayonet to say nothing of ammunition is less useful than an aluminum baseball bat.

Oh you're right. I'm trying to get at the idea of how it looks when a military base has a mass shooting. It doesn't look good because it undermines legitimacy of the state.
