Remember when black people were called Negroes? Well, Negro just means black, so that really shouldn't have been a problem, but they didn't like it for whatever reason. OK, so society will call black folks something else. How about colored? Well, after being acceptable for a while, apparently that also is now offensive (although not offensive enough for the NAACP to change their name), so let's try again, I guess. African American? Kind of a clunky term, but fine. You happy with that now? No, not good enough. Now it's "person of color".

OK, I'm going to skip right past how ridiculous it is to get angry at "colored person" but be fine with "person of color", and get to my real point. All of the terms until this one have been black people trying to find a term they could live with. While I'm not sure why that has been so difficult, it was pretty much "whatever". This new term, however, is different, and intentionally so. While all the previous terms meant black people, "person of color" means anyone who is not white. It is meant to put white people into one camp, and everyone else into another. It is an exclusionary term, meant to make white people the "other". And because the modern left spends so much time thinking about exclusion and "othering", there can be little doubt that they knew what they were doing.

So, my advice for white people is, do not use this term. It was designed to have the psychological effect that it's you vs. everyone else. Do not allow the conversion to be subtly framed in this way. As most of us have noticed, there is a growing anti-white sentiment being pushed with cries of "white privilege" and claims that only white people can be racist. Don't use terminology designed to tear you down.

My advice to people who are not white is this: do not use this term. When you do, you are establishing an "us vs them" mindset, and although you may have been convinced that's what you want, it really isn't. You see, white people are generally nice people, polite and civilized. We are not your enemy, and you don't want us to be. Because white people are some of the nicest people you will meet, until they're not. And then they're really, really not. You want us to remain nice, like David (or Bruce, whatever) Banner. You wouldn't like us when we're angry. We are exceptional at getting downright evil when we get that us vs. them mindset, so stop promoting it.

I'm comfortable with being called white. But I become very, very angry if you call me a Caucasian. I'm very sensitive about race.

    Not.

I just call them black. To their face even. I'm not going to play these PC games. I've honestly never had a problem.

I think it's mostly white liberals who make this an issue.

It's pretty certain that progressives are the ones who made up the term person of color. Probably made it up for some college class talking about how evil white people are. The suggestions in the OP were for basically everyone other than them- the people of all races who have no desire to group up on opposing sides. Most black people don't mind being called black, it's the white progs (because they're so full of self-imposed guilt) who think they have to tiptoe around other races and change the wording every few years to try to find a more PC way of saying it. But like I said, if black people collectively decided that they wanted to be called "X", that's fine with me. The problem is that the new Marxists are trying to make it whites vs all by putting whites into one category, and all other races in another.

Almost everyone I know including black people use the term 'black'. Why? It's easier.
