Compulsory acquisition is transacted at above market value. Any impacted home owner can easily verify that that is so when the offer is made. If they believe it's not above market price, they have legal recourse to demand it.

For many people, being able to sell their property at a premium without having to lift a finger to sell it, is a huge win. Of course some won't like it .. that's inevitable.

The government decides what the market price is. Trust me on this one, we had land from our church taken so they could widen the road. We got appraisals from 3 sources and the government went with their version of a fair market price and it was lower than all 3.

No, it doesn't. Property prices are ever in flux, and that flux is a function of supply/demand. Govt cannot control demand, and has little influence on supply (since the majority of property is privately held).

 

But the government still uses what they say is the market price. Do no have no understanding of this at all? The market price for my house is whatever someone will pay for it. If I get 3 appraisals I will likely get 3 different values.

You may not know this, but there is no magic list that has the market price set in stone.
