No, the new bills would not have stopped these shootings.

The government already has the legal powers to enter the inner cities and seize illegally held guns but they don't. Unless laws are enforced there seems little point in introducing new ones.

There are plenty of controls but many are not being enforced. Trumpis all for background checks but I'm not sure how this goes with Congress.

As do all the laws trying to prevent drunk driving. Yet 29 people die every day in alcohol related crashes according to the CDC. Quite a huge problem but doesn’t quite get the attention gun crimes do. It’s still people being extremely irresponsible with the same things loads of people use without any problems. Millions drink but never drive drunk and kill people. Millions own guns and have never shot anyone.

Lots and lots of laws in place that essentially do very little. Still illegal to drive drunk and it’s still illegal to murder people.

It’s a cultural problem. More and more idiots doing idiotic things. I could walk down the street with a .22 slung over my shoulder back in the 80s, in NJ, and nobody said anything. We’d all go plinking in the woods. I shot arrows at a target in my front yard with a bunch of other kids, all under 10 yrs old and we never shot each other. We all bought those arrows from the convenient store down the street. Just Kids. NOT stupid either.

It’s a combo of terrible families and drugs. Sane, rational people from loving homes don’t go on shooting sprees.

I realize that these Gangs often kill innocents. That however is not the killing that I was referring to in my post.

Nope - and that is not what my post says. I was talking about gang on gang killing specifically - not when they do other crazy things.

Gang violence is domestic terror, and will continue until someone addresses it as such...

These latest shootings were not Gang Violence...But terrorists attacks by angry white men, who easily obtained weapons of war.......Weapons NO civilian should "legally" be allowed to possess

So you punish millions of Americans to fulfil your dream of an America with no means of even self defense.

You totally ignore where most of the deaths take place.

El Paso, Dayton, Chicago: Media doesn't treat all gun violence the same
Grace Hauck, Aamer Madhani and John Kelly, USA TODAYPublished 6:34 p.m. ET Aug. 5, 2019 | Updated 9:42 a.m. ET Aug. 7, 2019

In Chicago, 1,517 people have been shot this year. That is 129 fewer than 2018.
    Data through Saturday, July 27

The Chicago Tribune crime team tracks shooting victims in Chicago. Data represents number of victims, not shooting incidents. Homicide data can be found here. This page will be updated weekly.

^^^^ THIS IS A RACIST POST

Whites are a majority of Americans. The math would pretty much make the race part true. What makes them "Angry"? That's a racist comment. It would be like ascribing a negative adjective to other races in a blanket statement. Would you like to apologize? You have lost all morality here with your attacks on a race like this.

Currently, federal law requires background checks(through the National Instant Criminal Background CheckSystem) only for guns sold through licensed firearmdealers, which account for 78% of all gun sales in the United States. ... According to the CSGV, the law also has a prohibitive effect, that deters illegal purchases.

What paranoia or crazed fear can you be insulting me about?

The founders believed in our safety thus created our second amendment.

I ask you this. As long as you have lived, precisely who shot at you and did you get hit?

What makes you fear only white men?

Read the Constitution, your opinion simply does not stand up to the 2nd Amendment. Just about every modern firearm was once a weapon of war, or based upon one, whether its a handgun, a rifle,or shotgun. What civilians can purchase today are not weapons of war per se, but imitations of such, unless they purchase the automatic license. The ignorance of gun grabbers is astounding...

As much as I know, reports keep showing that the mass killers passed universal background checks. But how can those checks measure potential anger of killers?

Why should NO civilians be legally allowed to possess these weapons?

I fired weapons of war when I was in the Army. I do not believe even one .50 Cal machine gun has fired against Americans. I fired the BAR and believe when it was used against Americans, it took place in the 1930s. Since then I do not know of a single killing using the BAR weapon of war.

I fired the M-60 machine gun and the M-14 machine gun. But to date know of no example of either shooting down Americans.

I fired the flame thrower. I know of no example of Americans killed by civilians using that war weapon.

I tossed hand grenades. I know of no mass killing in America using that weapon of war.

I fired the so called Grease gun machine gun. I never heard of any civilian firing those at victims.

There are over a 1,000 Federal guns laws and in California there are over 800 State gun laws and none of those guns laws was enough to stop the Gilroy shooting.

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/05/poli...ld-trump-mass-shootings-fact-check/index.html

(CNN)In the wake of two mass shootings that left 31 dead, President Donald Trump tweeted Monday morning that "Republicans and Democrats must come together and get strong background checks," suggesting that the legislation be paired with immigration revisions.

Would strengthening or expanding background checks have prevented the alleged shooters from purchasing firearms?
Facts First: Doubtful. There is no indication that the shooting in Dayton, Ohio, would have been prevented by proposed universal background checks or legislation to bolster the federal background check system. The alleged El Paso, Texas, shooter purchased his firearm legally and there is no evidence that he had a criminal history that a background check would've caught.
In February, Trump threatened to veto two pieces of gun control legislation: one bill that would extend the FBI's review period for an incomplete federal background check from three business days to 10 and another that would impose a universal background check nationwide. Both bills have passed the House but have not been voted on in the Senate.
If the FBI fails to complete the background check in the allotted time, the individual is permitted to purchase the firearm. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), as the name suggests, is supposed to take a very short time. But if there is a mistake or missing information -- among other things -- the FBI is supposed to investigate and determine if the applicant should be in the NICS or not. If they fail to do so in three business days, the applicant is permitted to purchase their firearm.

Its mostly just gun grabber whining because the AR platform is so versatile, more so than the AK platform. It looks like the M-16 or M-4, so they just assume its the same thing, pretty sad really. Technically the 1911 is a weapon of war, issued to troops for almost a century, but they don't whine about that...
