I use to be really big into cigars but recently I bought a briar pipe and am loving pipe tobacco. Does anyone else here smoke pipe tobacco?
I used to years ago. Mainly with Cherry Blend or Captain Black. I enjoyed it but couldn't keep up with it when I got a cop job. Enjoy!
I don't smoke...anything...but love the smell of a good pipe tobacco or a good cigar. Strange, because the smell of cigarettes nauseates me, esp when in lingers in people's clothing
Ditto, the same here. I don't smoke but I love the smell of cigar and pipe tobacco in the air. There is a tea that the Harney and Sons tea company sells that is their own called Boston Blend and aside from tasting good, whenever I open the one pound bag the scent wafting in air is that of a good pipe tobacco.
I get my tea out of Boston (Upton tea) and it seems that I have come across one with similar bouquet as well. Man oh man, now I want some tea and a good book and some pipe in the vicinity. Bad Troianii, bad Gatewood lol.
Smoked a pipe and cigarettes for years. Had my own blend made up at a pipe shop at the Mall. Quit cold turkey in February of '81. I am missing several teeth because of smoking a pipe. I have COPD. My advice. Leave all of 'em alone.
Haha, I have much the same experience. I hate the smell of cigarettes and can find it nauseating, but I love the smell of GOOD cigars and pipe tobacco. I'd actually recommend going to TJMAXX and checking out their candles. I'm not typically big on candles, but through the years I got them as gifts for my mother, and a while back I noticed they had new masculine blends. I just picked up a couple tobacco scented ones today - fantastic smell.
Sorry to hear that. I honestly probably won't take your advice. I've read studies and found that the increased risk for cigar and pipe users isn't as significant, about a 20% increased chance of tooth loss in this case. It obviously varies based on how much you use, and I use a lot now because I'm "honeymooning" with my new pipe, but when I was more into the cigar end I smoked 2-4 weekly, which is likely where I'll end up with the pipe. The equivalent of 1-2 cigarettes/day, on average.
I used to be into pipes and had quite a a few good seasoned ones. I think you can buy carbon lined briars today.
yeah, i picked up a Nording and it had a black lining on the inside. I think the one in the front of this image is the one I got. At least it looks about the same. I also couldn't help but get this at the price listed. It functions fine, even if not as well as the Nording, and was only eight bucks.
Cob pipes are good for sure! I had one wood briar with a good build up and it was the sweetest, smoothest pipe ever. I might get back into a pipe come to think of it. Nordings are a good pipe.
Yeah the briar is beautiful. I've thought about mixing my pipe tobacco with some green stuff in it, but haven't gone that far yet. I have reservations because I'm concerned the green stuff will leave a distinct smell on the pipe. What kinds of tobacco did you use? Like I said I just got into it, but I ordered a handful of different kinds in 50g- 100g just to sample. I got a few CAO blends, 7 Seas, a Captain Earles Nightwatch (honestly the name sold me - I have fond memories of my night watches at sea), Erin Go Bragh, a Frog Morton, and some French vanilla one. Most are good, except one of the CAOs was a miss. I call my corn cob my "MacArthur" for obvious reasons.
Middleton's Cherry Blend (interesting can cause tongue bite though) Carter Hall (basic, mild and good for blending) Mac Baren, 7 Seas ribbon cut black cavendish, burley (very mild, aromatic) Prince Albert (good OTC) That's all the immediately come to mind.
