IMO 'known criminal' the wrong term. My understanding is that there was an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor offense. If true then every citizen with a traffic violation would fall under the category of 'criminal'. His mistake was panicking and resisting arrest. But then he was also young and the advice he would be getting from his local community and peers (especially in Minneapolis) at the moment) about what to do when confronted by the Police would most likely not be helpful. So until more information comes to light I'm certainly not I'm not going to judge his actions too harshly - which is why this is tragedy all round.

 

They wouldn't rise to that level had the individual simply complied like an adult.

Without a valid tag it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle on a public road. MN like most states have an online portal to renew so COVID is a poor excuse:

It still remains a completely valid reason for police to initiate a traffic stop. I have been pulled over for this very reason (by three cop cars with five officer's — it was late and they thought it was stolen as I had removed all of the decals on the tag to put the new ones on and forgot).

I showed them the valid registration, new decal and that was it.

I also didn’t have a warrant out for my arrest for assault and had they ordered me out of my vehicle I would have complied and not jumped back into my vehicle.

His race has nothing to do with this, this isn’t like the Arbery murder where race was absolutely the issue or the Shaver murder where they maliciously killed him.

This kid did everything he could to inflame that situation. And your assertion that this all happened because of his race disgraces the memory who were targeted and murdered for that very reason.
