    It's an interesting question. The best comparison (and not surprisingly, this group used to be known as The Jews Of the East) is the Chinese. They've been in many countries, in many parts of the world, for a long long time. They've also had plenty of money, and owned thriving businesses in those places. As far as I'm aware, they've never been expelled from anywhere. What's the difference?

    The only time they've experienced something akin to the Holocaust happened in the 1960s in Indonesia, when many ethnically Chinese were killed. Those who weren't were forced to change their names and stop speaking their native tongue. Ideograms were outlawed, also. When you outlaw language, alphabet, and names, you basically compel assimilation. To this day, many many ethnically Chinese Indonesians are unable to speak Chinese, and have Indonesian names.
