Maybe, but they don't go hold a rally and hope protesters show up to protest the rally.

    Hi Lee,

It would appear that the Police Bureau did a pretty good job this time. I have always known they were capable of maintaining order and arresting lawbreakers. Totally capable.

The reason why they haven't done it in the past is purely political, starting with Mayor Ted, who I regard as an idiot.

I don't credit him with the mostly positive outcome this time. I credit President Trump and people like Lars Larson who have called out this idiot mayor, and who have put so much pressure on him, and negative attention, that he had no choice but to free up his Police Bureau to do what it has always been capable of.

They are the ones who deserve the credit.

    Seth

    LOL!
Hired actors, huh? What's the usual response from Democrats when the idea of voter ID is introduced? These White Liberal students are just repeating what they've been taught to say. No Blacks would say what the White Democrats say.

How do you know what they were hoping? Did they have a press release?

AJ once called these leftist BLM activists "paid black actors", who were there to make this actual attack on an elderly wheelchair bound woman a scam.

******mit!!!! I laughed so hard I spilled my coffee!!! (7 am where I am.)

But seriously ... I have always assumed they were pretty reliable ... I even gave them some money a few weeks ago.
I know they're probably liberals but that doesn't preclude being honest. Of course there will be some bias but you just have to read between the lines a bit. I suspect they would write something like this

QUESTION: "Are the Proud Boys fascist?"

ANSWER: The Southern Poverty Law Center, Black Lives Matter, the Revolutionary Communist Party, Professor Hysteria Doxem of the Harvard Department of Transspecies Studies and Al Queda have all designated the Proud Boys as a fascist organization. The Proud Boys have claimed that they are not fascists, but fascists are known to lie -- during the Battle of the Bulge, English-speaking German soldiers dressed up as American soldiers, infiltrated behind American lines, and mis-directed military traffic.

They certainly look like fascists, and a self-acknowledged fascist was once seen near some Proud Boys. There is the fact that most Proud Boys probably couldn't even spell the word 'fascist' properly, but on the other hand neither could most of the people who yell it at them. The fact that they have non-white members has been cited by some as evidence that they are not fascists, but others point out that these men could be there under duress or be paid actors.

    STATUS: Unproven.

Then after writing this, I thought I had better just check on the actual Snopes site. There is no specific question "Are the Proud Boys fascists?" that I could find, but there are several questions where Snopes mentions them in the answer and .... they call them 'fascists'.

    Damn.

    Another illusion shattered.

Reminds me of when my mother told me where babies come from. I thought she was pulling my leg at the time -- I mean, gross -- but ...

Is there anyone who can be trusted? As a conservative and a believer in the magic of the market, I just assume demand will create supply. Is this a case of market failure? Or maybe there's not much demand?

    Now let's be fair.
One side acts extreme, the other sort of looks extreme.

Or at least a bit scary. Sort of like Saturday night on certain streets in Glasgow when the pubs close, for UK-familiar people.

    So, yes, both are 'extreme'.

Ah, you're talking about politically-motivated -- sort of -- killings. And you're absolutely right. I point this out once or twice a week here, and sometimes link to the Wiki page which lists all the terrorist killings in America back to 1492. Some decades the left is ahead, some decades the Right.

Although we are at the moment living through a weird inversion of values -- it used to be conservatives who screamed about Russians-under-the-bed and the Left who hated the FBI -- traditionally, we've been the friends of law and order. And this unfortunately includes the secret police, who definitely fell down on the job back in the 1980s, when they should have turned their attention from the defeated Weathermen and similar groups, and started developing informants among the Klan and neo-Nazis and extreme anti-Abortion groups. If I had to defend them, I'd say they were probably made a bit timid by getting in trouble over COINTELPRO. (I've linked to the Wiki article on COINTELPRO, but it is the most biased dishonest Wiki article I have ever read, and I'm a connoisseur in that department.)

As for Islamic radicals also being part of right-wing terrorism, there is a lot to that. Many of the social values are the same. We could quibble about the use of the term 'right wing' -- I mean ISIS and Al Queda aren't much into Austrian economic theory -- but in a dictionary sense, yes. It's sort of like arguing about whether the terrorist Symbionese Liberation Army was part of the Left. Sort of yes, sort of no ... the political program was very leftist but the Left don't typically use a seven-headed cobra as a symbol of the struggle for liberation. Wiki unequivocally says they were left-wing but I think there is room for nuance.

The late and very much missed Christopher Hitchens used the term "Islamo-fascism" a lot but that got him into trouble with certain elements of the Left, perhaps especially those who were so very very enthusiastic about the coming to power of the Mullahs in Iran in 1979. A very good discussion of the whole issue can be found in the Wikipedia article with the same name, here. (There's about an hour's reading there but it's worth it.) I think it's safe to say that the consensus on the Left about the term 'Islamofascism' is against the use of the term, mainly because it might offend Muslims.)

So, okay, violent Islamists who blow things up are also 'part of right-wing terrorists'. I can live with that. Right-wing, right-wing, and that Republican grandmother is right wing ... ok...

But then .... that raises the interesting question of not-violent Islamists who don't blow things up (except, vicariously, Israeli schoolchildren). Are they just part of the ordinary right wing? The Islamic wing of the conservative movement?

Because I thought that these folks, who hate Israel and love Allah but don't kill us ... were part of the Democratic Party... don't they have a couple of Congress-entities or something?

I understand your view completely, although I disagreed in 2016. It is put very eloquently by Victor Davis Hanson, whom I respect very much, in a new book, The Case for Trump.

Trump might win in 2020, depending on events. A good economy (not looking good there, according to the inverted yield curve, whatever that is). And depending on what the Mullahs do, what Mr Kim does, what the Chinese do ... what the Democrats do. (Has that evil Trump managed to get some mind-altering substance into their coffee? It has long been known that the KGB specializes in poisons, some of them long-term and subtle in their effects on the victim. Anything is possible.)

But ... long-term demographics are against us. I think he'll be the last Republican President.

    We've got to have a Plan B.

    God ... so funny!!!

White clueless college kids ...the Black people being interviewed have more common sense in their left little toes than those poor innocent kids at their fancy university have in their whole bodies ... I guess that's what "diversity studies" does to you . --- diversifies your cerebral cortex and mixes it with oatmeal....

I mean, this video alone is the answer to the race-and-IQ obsessives .

And then ... the answer ... "Hired actors"!!!!!!!!!!! ... Lord ...it's better than Saturday Night Live.

It's been a particularly good week for Comedy on this forum and my face is starting to hurt from laughing. That Mercedes Benz ad still tops the entries but the competition is fierce.

Yes, but I'm not proud of doing so.

I suppose I had a similar response when some liberal called the late Charles Krauthammer, "Old Frankenstein".

I know that the constrant scolding PC crap from these people can get very very irritating, and it's so tempting to shock their delicate sensibilities by being, as they would call it, "transgressive".

But it's our side who believe in, and should practice, courtesy and civility, which doesn't preclude hard left jabs and uppercuts, both physical and rhetorical, when necessary.

What our liberal friends don't understand is that within the social layer that the Proud Boys are from, personal relationships have a kind of rough honesty not found in the world of middle-class political correctness where you quickly learn to pretend to believe things you don't really believe.

Men from that background share the same attitude towards women, towards what they see as limp-wristed college boys who will soon be making five times as much as them, towards a thousand other little things that separate the social classes. (Do you remember that Black rapper who called feminists "lesbians with hairy arms"?) White/Black/Brown -- those guys are NOT PC, and in today's world, that binds them together.

No Black or Hispanic having a beer with a Proud Boy need feel that his white counterpart secretly believes he's inferior and is just there in college because of Affirmative Action. (You've probably seen the study that shows that white liberals change their speech patterns, making them simpler, when dealing with Blacks.)

True, Proud Boys are supposed to be 'Western Chauvinists', whatever that is, but I doubt that any of them, of any color, will be signing up for a tour of Chartres or a cruise of the Greek islands with on-board lectures in the difference beween Dorian, Ionian and Corinthian architectural styles. They just like Mercedes-Benz cars [ or used to -- what in the hell's their marketing department thinking?] and modern dentistry and not dying when you're three years old and all the rest of what the rest of the planet is rapidly adopting.

So, although I doubt every Proud Boy would pass that famous 'Are You a Racist' test they have at Harvard, it makes utter sense to me that Blacks and Hispanics who might like to have an excuse to give a beardy-weirdy a good kicking would feel right at home among his white counterparts. Which is wrong, of course.

What's SSM? Not single-sideband-modulation ... so what is it?
