Depends. Sometimes any degree can get a foot in the door for low level corporate supervision.

Actually all any degree can do is get a foot in the door somewhere, and after that it's individual performance that makes or breaks.

True, but people who spend 80,000 for a degree in Underwater Basket Weaving and complaining the "man is holding them back" amuse me.

One of my relatives got a degree in forensic science and no department will hire her. But she has the idea that she is too good to go through the police academy and work patrol and then detective to get a foot in the door of a lab. Hardheaded as a mule, already knows it all. Sitting at home a useless eater. Mom and Dad work.

Most American workers are employed as "at will", but postal craft employees are employed under "just cause". In other words, there must be a legitimate
business reason to terminate someone's employment for a craft employee.

If what you're selling is popular with buyers, you'll do well. What you're saying is true......before the internet.

My childhood friend's mother works for the post office. She HATES it but needs the retirement at this point she's put in the time she pretty much has to finish out.

    Hardly.........

    Paraphrased from "Other Peoples Money"

    The USPS is dead.

    I didn't kill it. Don't blame me.

It's been dead for a long time. It's too late for prayers.

The Internet, eBills. New technologies. Obsolescence.

They're dead, all right. They're dead just not broke yet.

And do you know the surest way to go broke?

Keep getting a constant share of a shrinking market. Down the tubes. Slow but sure.

You know, at one time there must have been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best ******n buggy whip you ever saw.

Now, how would you have liked to have been a stockholder in that company?

We invested in a Postal Service, and it is is dead. Let's have the intelligence--let's have the decency--to sign the death certificate, collect the insurance, and invest in something with a future.

"But we can't," goes the prayer. "We can't, because we have a responsibility, a responsibility to their employees, to our community. What will happen to them?"

I got two words for that: who cares?

Care about them? Why? They didn't care about you. They sucked you dry. You have no responsibility to them. For the last ten years, the USPS bled your money while racking up huge pension benefits.

I read one story where a postal deliverer got in trouble for throwing out people's junk mail for them. When people found out about it after it appeared in the news he got over 60 thank you cards, but was still in big trouble from his superiors.

It's attitudes like yours that are helping to destroy American culture; your attitude of "Me not We" is nothing but pure greed. We as Americans (true Americans anyhow) have a moral obligation to think of all instead of just ourselves.

You have a nice pension from your job, but yet complain about another worker having a pension to live off of when they retire so they can live comfortably in old age. The USPS had a fully funded pension plan until the government raided it to borrow money which they never paid back. Surprised? I'm not given the mindset of conservatives in this country; many of them would most likely throw their own mothers under the bus if it meant they could save a few pennies.

The post office is increasing using contractors, not post office employees, to avoid benefits and pensions.

Why? They can go to work for what ever contractor takes over.

Why can a contractor do the job better then the government employees?

They can be better, worse or the same. The reason USPS is going to contractors is to avoid all the costs of benefits and pensions.

All the government has to do is to make sure that all the employees they hire are competent; how tough can that be? The government is still in effect paying for the benefits and pensions of the contractors since they pay the same or more in most cases for the services.

Government employees have unions that protect the sloven and dumbasses, so our mail gets scattered far and wide. I can post some videos of postal workers drinking on the job if you'd like?

And who hires these "sloven and dumbasses" in the first place?? It sure isn't the union that hires them, the managers hire them. Why don't the managers hire good employees in the first place? The union gets stuck representing the bad employees because they have a legal obligation to do so otherwise they can get sued by the employee.

That's why we need to eliminate ALL public service unions. Even FDR the hero of all liberals thought so.

Yeah, that's why you posted this, didn't you? Republicans deliberately cripple the US postal service after 250 years, and want to give it away
to the Corporate State. And whine when worker morale takes a dip. It's fiendish. How do you people sleep at night?
How long have you been doing the devil's work?
