I think the rule is that if you change a quote you MUST acknowledge that you did so. The most common way I've is seen is someone posting "Fixed it for you," after the altered quote ideally having a line thru the original word(s) so others can see what the original post said - and the change made. That would seem acceptable. Just changing it without noting it was altered and how? No. Shouldn't do that as others can copy that fake quote and use it elsewhere against that member, with it maybe impossible for that member to find his/her original quote to prove it a fake. Plus not everyone reads an entire thread before posting, so may not know it was altered.
