You assume she was given top secret clearance. She may never have had any background check yet. The FBI is responsible for this and some have gone as long as three years in their positions before the FBI gets around to the investigation.

Kind of ironic that she's getting a dose of Reality.

No I'm sure she had one. She wouldn't have worked at NSA while in the Air Force without one.

If you leak DNC emails, you get shot in the back while walking home.

Actually, they quite often get access prior to the clearance being finalized.

Merely submitting via e-QIP for a military member is sufficient.

I had a top secret extra background clearance (EBI) while in the AF but that was back in the seventies. Even then we had soldiers that served their Whole AF term while never getting clearance.

They are sure pissed off about the Hillary leaks though, if they would stick to policy they would be doing much MUCH better. I truly think the massive decline of the Democratic party has less to do with Obama and more to do with the overall attitude that has taken over the party

My knowledge on that may be outdated, but I'm still pretty sure that's not correct. You can submit your clearance paperwork and get an interim, but not for codeword, which is what this chick had. Anyway she wouldn't have had an interim clearance for her entire Air Force career. Particularly when she probably had over a year at the Defense Language Institute learning Farsi. That's plenty of time to get a clearance finalized.

You don't have to have a clearance to be in the Air Force, but you sure do to be a Cryptologic Language Analyst, and work at the National Security Agency.

Sure you do. I worked SAC underground headquarters and dealt with Cold War issues, you know, Russia.

It's usually waived because otherwise they wouldn't get access to government computer systems, which means they'd be useless.

Background checks, due to the sheer number, have a huge backlog, particularly at that level. Basically you'd have to hire someone a year in advance to make sure the clearance was completed before they started work. In the military that's clearly not going to work doing a year of your enlistment doing basically nothing.

In Winner's case and other's like her, that's a non issue since they spend over a year at DLI before they even get to their tech school. So that's plenty of time to get a TS.
