I don't think you and I have much to really ague about, but it seems to me that you most likely are going to turn on the flashlight to find the intruder, which may not be hitting him in the face to temporarily blind him.

I would prefer to warn the intruder from a dark position, telling him that I know where he is, that I am armed, and if he doesn't flee immediately there will be very loud noises.

since no attack by an attacker is the same wouldn't it be intelligent to practice and be prepared for anything? Practice what you describe and practice what dentalfloss is advocating?

I agree that we don't have much to argue about, but I would point out that voices are directional, too.

I cant see going out about the house looking for an intruder.

I plan to be behind the bed, door locked, speed dialing 911. Shotgun aimed at the door.

Id rather my house was ransacked than kill someone.

IF tho, someone breaks the door down then two shots from a 12 gauged shot gun will be the result. Im not about to let anyone get me.

When an intruder enters your home, you can't be sure all he wants to do is "ransack" your home. When someone intrudes I want him stopped, and I don't think of him as being "someone" I think of him as an animal who puts my wife and self in danger. At 78 I have no need to grapple with the small stuff.

You know what would make fewer victims? Fewer armed criminals... Why do we insist on making it easy for them?

My flashlight is extremely powerful, I think it would blind a person.

My warning position is from behind a bed behind a locked door...assuming I am able to be there.

Of course I cant be sure an intruder only wanted to steal. If that was the only thing they'd ever want, Id not be armed at all.
I dont want to be raped, Id rather die fighting, and far more prefer nobody had to get hurt at all..
I wont shoot someone over possessions. Id sure shoot someone to prevent being raped.

Other than attacking me, or stealing things, I dont know what else an intruder might want.

As for your idea of what your response to an intruder would be, that is of course your choice and i wish you well.

I did, btw, see where a 76 (?) yr old retired boxer took out an attacker recently. The
guy broke in and lunged at the boxer with his knife. The boxer said, "He lunged at me, and my training just took over." One blow to the face, down he went for the count. Perfect!

Of course, if the badguy had a gun, things might have been very different.

I do respect you for your determination to defend yourself and your wife. :D
