It occurred to me the other day that in life, you generally can't get away with calling people names.

The only exception to this really is accusations of racism, sexism and homophobia. You can't get away with calling someone an idiot, an (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) or a slut, but you can accuse people of these (far more serious) things with more or less impunity.

This causes a serious imbalance in our culture. If they are basing their attacks in the terminology of the left, one side gets to fire at will while the other has their hands tied.

I am making some progress on starting my own business and I know that if I'm ever accused of any of those things, I will fire or cease working with the other person immediately because I don't think I should have to tolerate accusations or insults. To be fair, I haven't been accused of any of that since I left college (which was a constant slurry of all types of unfounded accusations) but you never know what could happen.

The reality of course is that I could be taken to court for this even though being called something less damaging to my reputation would create no claim... therein lies the problem I think.

Which is the entire purpose of accusations of racism.

It is NOT about TRUE racism.

It's about bigotry and shutting down the political opposition using any dirty rotten trick possible.

You see, they want their utopia. and they want to achieve using any way they can. That means shutting down ALL forms of dissension and threats.

Racism is a very hard thing to fight, which is why it is so popular. Whenever they cry racism, it automatically sets the accused into defensive mode, because most people do fall for it. Not all of us, but a lot.

Which is why it is so popular.

And I personally view the leftists as actually more racist than conservatives. Here's how:

They think that every single African American out there has to be liberal and loyal to the Democratic party. Any of these people who are conservative will be demonized, and ironically, through the use of racist epithets. For proof of this you can find thousand of cartoons bashing Condoleeza Rice, Collin Powell, and Clarence Thomas with epithets like "I like to serve whitey". People like Bill Cosby are called traitors to their race. And if that's not racist, then I don't know what racism is.

Secondly, they don't want blacks to succeed. They want all blacks to be enslaved to big daddy government. They don't want African Americans to take care of themselves and believe that they can't. If that's not racism I don't know what is.

thirdly they don't denounce the thuggish "Gangsta" culture. This thug culture that worships drug dealers and other all around thugs are hurting the African Americans. Yet, leftists don't want to address this issue.

I'm sure I'm going to be blasted for this, but they don't know that i see right through them and their racist slurs have no effect on me. I will not be bullied or intimidated into submission against something that I think is wrong. Name calling accomplishes nothing and nothing gets resolved.

And I want to see these problems resolves. I want to see African Americans become successful and able to take care of themselves.

that's what America was for, was for people to be able to take care of themselves and NOT be enslaved to a tyrannical government.

But that's what the leftists want more than anything else. They want everybody enslaved to a big daddy government, and I'm sorry, that's why they are the most hateful people of all. To enslave anybody is hate, pure and simple, and America was meant to be the land of the free, with the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happyness.

There is no liberty at all in a big daddy government that wants to protect everybody from themselves.

Why is it you do not understand the basic difference between name calling and being accused of a direct form of bigotry? That's actually a very simple concept. Calling someone stupid is generally not backed up by any solid facts or examples. I have personally been called a lot of names by the members of the more conservative minded that seems to have a negative undertone in their ranks but are ambiguous and uncertain to the general population. Calling me a "tree huger" for example, seems to have profoundly negative meaning to a conservative, but might actually be something a liberal would take pride in. Same difference with a "bleeding heart liberal", it's a name that cannot be identified as socially negative to all citizens.

Calling someone the "n" word or the "f" word aims directly at a specific group, as does the act of being unfair to them or treating them in a negative manner. If someone is claiming you are a racist or a bigot, it's the same as saying you are a specific type of criminal. It's not just a form of "name calling", it's an expression of describing your personal behavior in relation to something you did or said. If you are not those things, you don't act in that manner, then you should not be worried about being called such things. As a society, we want to publicly condemn such behavior, and if someone is stupid and does stupid things, calling them stupid will never fix their problem, but pointing out the behavior of someone who is deliberately and willfully being negative to others, can and does put a stop to it.

Why can't you understand that left5ist overuse the term and don't limit to cases where there is real racism?

And whenever people protest, it has to be about the protester being a racist, and there can't be any other possibility, and there just can't be any kind of possibility that they're wrong, because all protesters have to be a racist, which, is from racism of their own.

yes, there is real racism out there, and it is a problem. But leftists don't care about it. They just want to shut down any form of dissension and any opinion that is different than theirs. Why? Because they think everybody has to be like them and live by their rules and they can not handle anything that does not share their ideology.

So they cry racism whenever they can.

And what it amounts to is name calling to shut down discussion.

It's wrong, and it's entirely dishonest.

Bigoted against bigotry is crap, especially when everything that is not liberal is called bigotry.

Un f-ing believable. Are you -sure- you want to stick with the above?

Frankly I find your whole argument nothing but a frothy attempt to ignore reality and policies. First of all you started off with a fantasy villain concept of what you think liberals want, and then set out to bolster your belief with disconnected facts. The underlining argument you pose remains that you don't believe in protecting the freedoms and right of anyone, that African Americans should be allows to be victimized by people like you. No matter how you sugar coat it, you still try to use the demonizing of government to cover your own bias views. Using example of Condoleezza Rice cartoons on the net is nothing more than an example of all the political cartoons on the net, so that's a pretty weak argument.

Condoleezza Rice is condemned by liberals for her actions, not for her color, and that is why you fail to understand the difference. As a liberal, I condemn the behavior and actions, behavior, and words of people like Allen West, Bobby Jindal, and even Michel Steel, not because of their skin color, but because of their policies! I find it amusing that they are pandering to people who would put them in chains the first chance they got, like a black guy joining the KKK, but I base my opinion of them on what they do, say and think, the very same as I did of Bush, McCain, and Romney. Their policies are bad for everyone, especially African Americans and women.

Maybe I have a form of bigotry, we all do, but mine is not based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. Your's is.

Frankly I find your whole response entirely Pavlovian and the prime example of standard liberal shaming tactics.

See, this is the exact sort of thing I mean. Any dissent must be by a racist, there can be no other option.

I think you got some mahogany with that lame response. You guys use it so much.

If I had a dollar for every time I've had that response I'd be a rich man.

THEY CAN NOT RESPOND WITH ANY OTHER KIND OF RESPONSE.

They are not about resolving differences, they just want to shut you down.

And they think they're doing good.

And here's another video from the same guy that of course liberals will just resort to their standard crap responses.

Uh, so what? You found another racist, even if he is African American, they do exist I have no problem with calling him what he is. But here is the real question, how many white people has he thrown in jail? How many white people does he employ and treat like slaves? How many white people does he keep oppressed? How many real crimes has he committed against people because they were white and gotten off Scott free?

Again, if you are being called a "racist", it's probably because you did something racist, it's really that simple. If you are afraid of that, then you must have something to be legitimately afraid of.

So being a bigot against liberals is OK? That's all you are demonstrating here. You hate liberals and anything related to being liberal so this is just another way for you to avoid the real issues and and keep complaining about what you hate.

I don't care if it's racism, sexism, homophobia, or political bias, whatever, if you are too busy finding reasons why you hate the other guy to even discuss the differences, the other guy is not the problem, your hate is the problem. It's all a form of bigotry.

If I had my own political discussion forum I would nev er allow anyone to call another person racist or a bigot in any way shape or form.

    It's used way too much.

I am really tired of it.

And as far as it's OK to be judgmental against liberals?

The Bible says it best. Judge no lest ye be judged in kind.

That's just another dirty rotten trick they used to silence criticism of them. If they don't want to be judged then they shouldn't call people racist.

    It's as simple as that.

    Edit:

    And I just realized something:

    This statement:

If we call you racist then you must have done something racist...

Would be completely thrown out in a court of law. The law does not allow this because it incriminates people against themselves.

No, it's not really any better, but you are right one thing. I do have social problems. That I won't deny.

However, in order to understand them you have to understand my life.

And the only way you can understand my life is to have lived it.

What causes my anxieties is that all of my life I have been bullied by people, and it is always my fault, no matter what. people just can't ever see that a lot of the times, it is truly their fault because they came to the wrong conclusions in some way and must react with a bunch of name calling and insulting and berating. And I've had that kind of thing all of my life.

But that's putting it in a simple manner, and the truth is, it is not really that simple. Sometimes, it is truly my fault. other times, it really is not. But everybody demands that I admit it's my fault while they don't have to. And I'm sorry, but it's that kind of thing that gets me upset. I can't stand that sort of thing where one person demands another person behave in one sort of way but never behaves in the way that they demand the other.

And by the way, not everyone is a racist, but everyone is a bigot in some form or another.

If you want proof, I challenge you to go to a discussion forum called the Democratic Underground. Post a thread similar to "all conservatives are racist, every single one" and you'll get a lot of support for that kind of statement, even though they state they're against things like generalizations.

You see, everyone has their hang ups in one form or another. Some of us are more well rounded, but even they have their bigotries.

Examples? The hostility towards child molestation is a form of bigotry. liking one thing over another is a form of bigotry. Not all bigotry has to do with hate. That is something liberals don't seem to understand.

And yes, I am mildly racist. But not for reasons that you think, I am uncomfortable around other people because I get insulted and berated a lot, and sometimes no matter what I say somebody will get angry at me because I have an opinion they just can't see.

You see, one big weakness to most human beings is this: they will see only what they want to see, and absolutely nothing else. And a lot of the times you can not convince them they are wrong because they just can't see that they could be wrong because they are too invested in being right. (er, no pun intended).

I am not such a bad guy, but I do have some strong prejudices against some things. It is not for things like african Americans, but I have a strong disdain for western culture so I do have a lot of prejudice against western people, especially Americans.

American culture, regardless of the belief, is based on intolerance and bigotry in the form of hate. Most Americans are intolerant of people who do not share their beliefs, and will insult and berate people for just not sharing their belief. This insulting is an attempt to bully and intimidate people into submitting into there ideology. Whether it be liberal or not.

And that is really what I balk against. People shouldn't be treated like that. What does it matter what one believes? What matters is if the person is actively trying to impose their beliefs on to others, whether it be liberal, conservative, or other.

Insulting and berating people, whatever the reason, whatever the form, is wrong. It does not accomplish anything.

People will not change if that's all that happens.

And it's the constant insulting and berating of people that causes bigotry and intolerance.

People who throw around words like racist, homophobe, misogynist, bigot, etc... with abandon, do so because they lack the ability to formulate an intelligent and fact based argument/counter argument. This behavior is not limited to those of any particular political persuasion, however is usually more prevalent in the supporters of whomever is currently in control of the area being discussed/debated. Why they do this I do not know, I can only assume. However, logically it would appear that this behavior occurs when people feel too comfortable simply because their group is on top at the moment.

In my opinion resorting to weak attacks, accusations, and insinuations, instead of an intelligent debate simply reveals a lack of intellect and character. I tend to just nod, smile and walk away when I encounter such lemming like people.

Meh, I get called a "racist", "liar", "interloper", "stupid", "coward", "gay", "fascist", and all kinds of other names from the right on this site. It's basically the cost of doing business as a vocal lefty. I've never seen a more aggressive bunch than the far right. But, in a way, that's exactly what inspires me to be more vocal -- we can't succumb to bullying.

Well, to put out an example, because what I've seen so far in this thread is that people don't like to be called racist.

If a person supports a policy that is designed to make it difficult for some minorities to vote.
    Is that person a racist?

Not necessarily. It all depends on what the policy is and the real character and motivation of the politician behind it.

The difficulty to vote may actually be an unintended effect of a policy.

These days being called a racist or a bigot by the left is almost a badge of honor. Their name calling and PC garbage is little more than an attempt to silence people that dont agree with them. The left and their name calling is very similar to two 5 years old calling each other names.
