“Case in point: The Washington, DC, Auto Show, where on January 18, genuine differences of opinion, Republican vs. Democrat, were heard: Who should decide the fate of the auto industry: the green technocrats? or the customers?
In D.C., as anywhere, the companies mostly want to tout autos, and yet given that its Powertown, the show included a Public Policy Day. ..

…Ah yes. Buyers have “choice”: any number they want, so long as it’s zero. That was the intended messaging for the 2024 auto show: government and corporations in green togetherness. The same as, in fact, the 2023 auto show.

    Yet things have changed…

…Most notably, two Republican Members of Congress were icy. They were Reps. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania and Roger Williams of Texas. At a bipartisan panel at the show, Kelly—himself a car dealer prior to Congress—said the whole idea of EVs was a “false narrative.” They only sell, he jibed, with huge federal subsidies. For his part, Williams ripped the feds for “trying to shove EVs down our throats.” Instead, he continued, Americans should be free to buy what they want to buy.

The two Democrat Members of Congress on the panel were taken aback by the ferocity of the GOP assault. Reps. Debbie Dingell of Michigan and Marcy Kaptur of Ohio both objected, but their objections actually contradicted each other….

This is a great article. I’m glad that exchange happened at the DC auto show. It’s great that the rush to all electric has been confronted by reality and by sound opposing points of view. I’m glad the part about China came up as well.

It’s all about we the people and us being given the choices we want in the marketplace including our automobiles. We don’t need coastal elites or executive branch bureaucrats making them for us.

No one is making choices for you on the federal level — but acting like subsidies to help promote an emerging vehicle type is bad while ignoring the billions that oil receives is… a tad hypocritical.

As to the states determining what can be sold within their boarders, I thought Republicans supported states rights? Or does that only apply to controlling women?

everything the Biden regime administrative state does is to set the path to do exactly nationally what California is doing here. I can’t wait for a Trump administration to come and tell California it can’t set standards exceeding EPA standards again. I live in California and I’ll never own an all electric car.

I am sure you would love that!
What constitutional authority would trump have to tell a state what can and cannot be sold within its borders?

Why can a state tell a child she must have her rapists child but not be able to determine what goods are sold?

We already know the answer. A mileage tax where the feds and state each tax you for every kilometer that we drive.

California is operating on a waiver the federal government gave it as to regulations. They can withdraw the waiver at any time.

    You didn’t answer the question

What constitutional authority does the Federal Government have to tell states what they can or cannot allow for sale in their state?

What I love about this whole tank of bullshit is how the current owners of these TOYS all lie their ass's off when asked how their milage is :) You ask a guy that's been GIVEN one and they will tell you just how limited they are... The store director for walmart here was given, well EVERY Walmart store director was given a brand new 2022 Tesla, if you ask the one here he'll tell you that under 40 degrees, don't go to far from town ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
