    Wow.

Are people of any particular race, creed, or color, in your opinion, less than full human beings?

The South should have never seceded over slavery or begun confiscating Federal property by force.

Even on the decentralised government argument, the Confederacy was in most ways more unitary and more centralised that the Union was.

Why not? He held the country together. That could well have reduced its ability to become the richest and most powerful country in the world in half a century.

No, it's a pretty predictable response when your argument when people criticize the Holocaust is, "Are you a huge fan of Jews?" I'm a big fan of, you know, not committing genocide. Why do you find that to be a novel concept?

This may be the most historically nonsensical claim anyone has ever made on the forums. No, Lincoln did not "create the race war." That's complete bull ****.

I never saw your posts to defend other Republicans. So you truly are a fan of the Racist Abraham Lincoln.

It's a nonsensical question that you used in the first place to respond to people criticizing genocide. People criticized genocide. You responded with this question. That is the "strange response."

I've defended other Republicans. It isn't my job to teach you how to use the search function. And I've repeatedly criticized Lincoln for his racism and his suspension of civil rights . . . it's just that the Confederacy was immeasurably worse on both of these counts, and it drove their secession to begin with.

That is only your personal opinion which comes from a poster refusing to reply to direct questions.

The idea that this is somehow a relevant question is "only your personal opinion," and one that crumbles the moment any one applies any kind of rational scrutiny to it.

So you say you criticized Abe for being racist. Step in the right direction. Criticized him for suspension of civil rights. Second good step. You are in agreement with me. Thanks.

The biggest problem with your speculation is that it assumes this to be an inherently good thing. It was, thankfully, true that the U.S. had this might to bring to the Allies in WW2; but had it not previously lent its might to the Allies in the FIRST World War, there may have never BEEN a second one.

As it is, California alone is the world's 7th largest economy. The U.S. makes up around one quarter of the world's economic activity. Even divided in half, one would still be, "the richest & most powerful country in the world," and the other would be very high on the list. And who knows, maybe we would even cooperate & work together, better than we do now.

And glad we can agree that the Confederacy was far, far worst in both respects.

I too have no use for the traitorous Confederacy, but I think you're being a little too hard on the Founders, who had a tough political problem to solve at a time when slavery was legal everywhere in the world.

The Civil War was a mess of rash, dumb decisions by both sides. Slavery was a main issue, but the underlying reason it was an issue at all was economics, which the North sought to use to punish the South for trading with Europe. After a half century of tariffs that punished the South, so much animosity was built up that when the North decided to keep attacking the economy of the South via attacks on slavery, the South left the union.

A horrific DUMB move by Northern morons in the 1850s.

It doesn't mean slavery was moral. It doesn't mean that the South was morally right. But you screw someone long enough and keep stealing their income, and they will revolt.

This seems to sum up the Civil War pretty well.
