    Rodney King detained for DUI
    2011-07-13 10:05

Los Angeles - Rodney King - whose videotaped beating by Los Angeles police led to race riots that devastated the city in 1992 - was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

In his latest brush with the law, King, 46, was pulled over in the Moreno Valley area east of Los Angeles, according to Courtney Donowho of the Riverside County sheriff's office.

"A field sobriety test was conducted, and Mr King was detained and taken back to the Moreno Valley station for further testing," she said. "I don't know yet whether he will be cited and released, or arrested."

King rose to national fame nearly two decades ago after he was beaten by baton-wielding Los Angeles police following a high-speed car chase.

Four officers involved went on trial the following year for use of excessive force but were acquitted, sparking the devastating 1992 Los Angeles riots that left more than 50 people dead and caused around $1bn in damage.

Since the events that catapulted him into the spotlight, King has had several brushes with the law.

He was arrested in 2005 for making threats to kill his daughter and his daughter's mother after the two women got into an argument with his then-girlfriend.

He was also arrested in 2003 for allegedly punching a girlfriend. He had also pleaded guilty to reckless driving after crashing into a house with his car.

In November 2007, he was treated in hospital after an incident in which he was shot and wounded in the face, back and upper torso, in the Los Angeles suburb of San Bernardino.

Im not going to defend him for anything since the first incident but you would have to be blind not to realize the police you would excessive force. For Christ sake the surgeons said several of his bones had been beaten into POWDER not to mention all the other stuff!

Authoritarians tend not to care about the people the police beat or kill needlessly. To them everyone the police encounter is a criminal because the police are never wrong.

To the rest of you, you all have made me lose a little more faith in my fellow countrymen. Thanks.

And this has what to do with the fact the police nearly beat him to death in front of the whole world - on videotape - in the original arrest?

Would your sympathies lie elsewhere if they had beaten Bush and/or Cheney in the same way when they were stopped - more than once - and charged with DUI? Would you then be decrying police brutality?

If you saw the entire video of the first incident you'd have to be blind to not know he resisted arrest and fought with the cops, just as they jury found.

I don't recall anybody ever calling Rodney King a "role model". He IS a human being, however, no matter the color of his skin and I'm not sure what "crime" he was committing at the time that entitled the police to powder his bones. Or do you consider being stopped for drinking and driving a valid excuse for the police to beat somebody to death? I guess it's a good thing these same policemen weren't the ones who stopped Bush and Cheney for the same offense, isn't it? We wouldn't have had those 8 years of peace and prosperity under their leadership if they had. LMFAO!

Because of his celebrity status. His name is now a household word.

There is a theory that poverty causes crime. Rodney would be a case-study on this. His new-found wealth certainly didn't deter his criminal behavior.

I still have trouble with my left ankle because Somoan prison guard broke it after I got arrested for passing out Investigation of Astara Evenstar flyers. Now the media ignores my story about what happened to Astara abeautiful white girl that was gang raped and thrown off a cliff at Pauwela Lighthouse on Maui.
these coverups including what happened to Laua Vogel and Yesuha Boestler also murdered at Pauwela lighthouse still are going on only because we are white. In the last 2 1/2 years I have listed over 100 Haoles as we are called in Hawaii in the missing persons forum on www.hawaiian-tv.com and there are hundreds more that I know abot but don't have their names or pictures to beable to post. White children are being kidnapped and either murdered by CPS in Hawaii raped or shipped to who knows where. I guess it is just plain racist to be concerned about what is happening to the race I belong to.
