The Western nations that have been attacked are seen to be complicit in their eyes. I'm not saying that justifies their actions by any means.

As far as Africa, Indonesia etc, specific cases need to be shown. Undoubtedly there are instances where it's mainly cultural/religious, but not in our case.

LOL This doesn't change the fact about the US. Here is a man carrying out a threat made by Al Quada in relation to the Muhammad cartoons. It wasn't actually conducted by al Quada.

Incidentally this doesnt actually refute what I just wrote. Why didnt bin Laden attack Sweden? The attack you mention is a random nutter who was angry about the cartoons. This doesn't refute the crimes of US foreign policy as a catalyst for terrorism.

But the Europe attacks were conducted by locals AFTER said authorities had participated in the war on terror. In the case of Indonesia, that was again a local attack directed at Australians, whose country had also participated. In the case of Africa, these attacks are part of Al Quada's lengthy local campaign to cause political chaos in an attempt to gain political or social mobility. something they have failed to for obvious reasons.

So where do their anti-western positions come from? Furthermore, why did bin Laden go against mainstream jihadi campaigns by attacking the US? Also, why did HE SAY THAT HIS REASON was based on the US foreign policy? Sorry but the actual terrorists say you are wrong! Have you ever read bin Laden's declaration of war on the US? Obviously not.

Actually, what you describe above is more an indication of a corrupt governmental system gone in the wrong direction over a 22 year period. Had Ron Paul's bills passed, today we'd likely be in much better, shape as a nation.

I watched the video at the top of this thread, and it's clear to me that the purpose of the interview is to make Ron Paul look bad. However, if you listen closely to Ron' Paul's answers, he is 100% correct and as he stated the many American people do agree with him.

    Ron Paul is saying..

    * Bring our troops home from around the globe!
It's a big waste of money and does not make America more safe.

    * Gradually close or reduce all corrupt and and ineffective government agencies.
Instead, find alternate means to accomplish the same goals.

    * America was not attacked on 9/11 because we are free and prosperous.
America was attacked, part due to certain government official's foreign policies.

...and the American people largely agree!

Sorry, there's nothing crazy about Ron Paul.

The above is probably the most true statement in this entire thread.

You, as with Paul, have no idea what you're talking about. The article which I supplied clearly states the reasons for al Qaedas attacks, none of which were related to US foreign policy.

How's that? You haven't substantiated your argument and you have yet to refute my statements. Are you saying that the terrorists themselves are wrong in their explanation for why they attack? You are starting to sound like a child.

Your source showed nothing of the sort. It merely noted a LOCAL attack on a LOCAL issue. It had nothing to do with Al Quada and the US. In regards to your Gaudian article states, "there are certain universal themes. To understand them we have to redraft our question. 'What do they want?' implies a Western concept of acting to achieve specific goals. Instead we should be asking: 'Why do they feel that they have to act in the way that they do?' The answer is that, from their twisted standpoint, they believe they have no choice." There basis for anger is centered on cultural clash hinging on US foreign policy. The article goes through - "They are fighting in self-defence", using "continuing American support for Israel, the war in Iraq and the killing of civilians in Afghanistan as evidence that the West never abandoned the Crusades."

Do you think Al Quada is wrong when they say they are attacking because of US imperialism? Are you serious?

LOL Ok here are some more articles to wake you up:

'One more thing. I noted yesterday that al-Balawi's brother told reporters that the doctor had been radicalized by the Israeli assault on Gaza last year. Today, Newsweek released an interview with the double-agent's wife, which makes it clear that she shares his opposition to U.S. policy in the region but traces his changing views to an earlier event. According to Newsweek:
"Al-Balawi 'started to change,' says his wife, after the American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. By 2004, she says, he began to talk to her about his strong belief in the need for violent jihad against Western occupiers of Muslim lands." '

You are seriously clueless if you think multiple bases, thousands of troops, billions of dollars to dictators and despots, along with coups and regime change are not going to aggravate people in the area.

Ron Paul is ENTIRELY CORRECT. You have yet to prove him wrong in the slightest.

Here is some scholarly work on the subject:

Fawaz Gerges, a leading jihadist analyst has noted that, for jihadi extemists like bin laden "expelling the American enemy... out of Muslim lands is much more impiortant than engaging" local governments, becuase the US is the source of their strength.[1]

As Chomsky gives an excellent overview:

"President Eisenhower expressed his concern about “the campaign of hatred against us” in the Arab world, “not by the
governments but by the people.” The reasons for the “campaign of hatred” were outlined by the National Security Council: “In the eyes of the
majority of Arabs the United States appears to be opposed to the realization of the goals of Arab nationalism. They believe that the United
States is seeking to protect its interest in Near East oil by supporting the status quo and opposing political or economic progress.”
Furthermore, the perceptions are accurate: “Our economic and cultural interests in the area have led not unnaturally to close U.S. relations with
elements in the Arab world whose primary interest lies in the maintenance of relations with the West and the status quo in their countries,”
    blocking democracy and development.36
Popular attitudes in the Arab world were particularly striking at that time (1958), shortly after Eisenhower had expelled Israel, Britain, and
France from the Sinai. Polls after 9/11 showed that much the same remained true, even among elite elements deeply embedded in the
U.S.dominated “globalized” economic order. By then, of course, there were other reasons for the hatred, among them the murderous Iraq
sanctions, unnoticed in the West but taken seriously in the region, and U.S. support for Israeli crimes. The Afghanistan and particularly the Iraq
invasion only exacerbated these feelings. Government studies draw the same conclusion. A Pentagon advisory panel, the Defense Science
Board, responded to Bush’s question by concluding that “Muslims do not ‘hate our freedom, ’ but rather they hate our policies,” adding that
“when American public diplomacy talks about bringing democracy to Islamic societies, this is seen as no more than self-serving hypocrisy.”[2]

Paul's full of crap when he says that US foreign policy was the cause of 911 and I've supported that position. And other than Paul's moonbat supporters no one else supports that position. Period.

I have. Apparently your reading comprehension is like Paul. Sub-par.

Truth is based on its perception. Not unsuprisingly you resort to ignorant insults in a vain attempt to make a point. How typical of a Paul supporter.

Nope. You're just chasing your tail. I'm done here. Keep on ranting about that imbecile Paul and his bat sh*t ideas.

No worries though. He hasn't any chance of coming close to gaining the nomination let alone winning.

Jason, it might be wise to go back and review all of Ron Paul's statements and then rethink your position. Ron Paul never said that US foreign policy was the sole cause of 911. He said that certain foreign policy contributed to the 911 attack. As I see it, his point is that we were mislead by those who say we were attacked due to our freedoms and prosperity. I never bought into that story but unfortunately many Americans did. ---pete---

You are so right. Installing the Shah of Iran and supporting wonderful people like Saddam does nothing but spread peace around the globe < i hope you read the sarcasm i am giving you some level of credit>

Albright saying that 500k dead children is "worth it" could have nothing to do with a group of people hating us.

    Nah.

The only "moonbats" around are people like you that think decade long sanctions and installing dictators around the globe doesnt spread hate....

One thing that you'll never see is that idiot Ron Paul standing at ground zero in NYC and proclaiming that the US was responsible for the carnage of that day.

New Yorkers would stone him to death.

    1) He never claimed the US as in the people caused the attacks. He says it was blowback.

    2) The CIA agrees with him

But please keep being ignorant and dont look at facts. I mean something catchy like "they hate us for our freedoms" is easier to take in then hey maybe we are not the great spreaders of freedom like you were taught in school.

Ignorance or the truth.. pick one.

Amazes me how easily people are misled.

Look any Conservative who doesn't have a completely twisted view of history knows Ron Paul is a loon.

Anyone who thinks the free market is so infallible that we can repeal the Civil Rights Act and Reconstruction Amendments is the definition of radical insanity.

Osama Bin Laden himself gave these reasons for his casus beli:

1)Our Support For Israel : Too (*)(*)(*)(*)ing bad, we will support whatever nation we want. That would be like China engaging in mass terrorism on US soil becuase of our support for Taiwan!

2)Troops in Saudi Peninsula: Too (*)(*)(*)(*)ing bad, we were asked to be there. Of course, stupid libertarians also believe in large part that we should've just let Saddam Hussein Gobble Up Kuwait.

3)The No Fly Zone and sanctions against Iraq: Once again, these were UN requested actions. On September 10th, 2001 we were just doing what the US has ALWAYS done since World War II. Enforcing international law at the Request of the United Nations, which is the accepted authority in such matters by the world.

A win for Ron Paul would be a win for Iran, China and Al Qaeda because it would guarantee America will put principle above vengeance.

In order to kill as many Jihadist swine as possible, I'm willing to compromise whatever principles we have in order to WIN. Do you get it? WIN (*)(*)(*)(*)ERS WIN. Ron Paul doesn't have the GUTS TO WIN.

You can keep repeating a lie. It doesnt make it a truth. Paul blames our foreign policy not the American people.
    The CIA agrees with him.

One of these days you will figure it out. Then again perhaps not.
