I don't think a law has to be violated to get a grand jury subpoena. As the saying goes, any half-way decent prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich; thy could probably subpoena the mayonnaise.

Well there needs to be some probable cause of a crime to justify bringing something before a grand jury and forcing people to testify. A "predicate crime". I'm stillwaiting for what is that.

Rudy Giuliani Facing Georgia Grand Jury Probing Trump’s Bid to Overturn 2020 Election – NBC New York

"Rudy Giuliani faced a special grand jury Wednesday under a judge's order to appear before the panel investigating attempts by former President Donald Trump and others to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia.

News cameras swarmed Giuliani as he stepped out of a limousine Wednesday morning with his attorney, Robert Costello, and walked up the steps into the Fulton County courthouse in Atlanta. Giuliani told reporters that he wouldn't talk about his testimony.

“Grand juries, as I recall, are secret,” Giuliani told reporters. “They ask the questions and we’ll see.” Grand jury secrecy rules prohibit people present during grand jury testimony from discussing it, but that prohibition does not apply to witnesses. Giuliani is a former federal prosecutor.

It's unclear how much the former New York mayor and attorney for Trump will be willing to say now that his lawyers have been informed he's a target of the investigation. Questioning will take place behind closed doors because the special grand jury proceedings are secret.

Yet Giuliani's appearance is another high-profile step in a rapidly escalating investigation that has ensnared several Trump allies and brought heightened scrutiny to the desperate and ultimately failed efforts to overturn Democrat Joe Biden's 2020 election win. It's one of several investigations into Trump's actions in office as he lays the groundwork for another run at the White House in 2024.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened her investigation after the disclosure of a remarkable Jan. 2, 2021, phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. On the call, Trump suggested that Raffensperger could “find” the exact number of votes that would be needed to flip the election results in Georgia.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing. He has described the call as “perfect.”

Willis last month filed petitions to compel testimony from seven Trump associates and advisers. She has also said she’s considering calling Trump himself to testify, and the former president has hired a legal team in Atlanta that includes a prominent criminal defense attorney."

In seeking Giuliani’s testimony, Willis noted that he was both

Jenna Ellis, Rudy's cronie, the Christian Constitutional lawyer,

"A judge in Colorado said on Tuesday that Jenna Ellis, an attorney who represented Donald Trump during and after the 2020 election, must appear before the Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury investigating the former President's election schemes.

In issuing the order, 8th Judicial District Judge Gregory Lammons stressed the limited role he was being asked to play.

This is "one witness in this state testifying in another state," he said at the end of an hour-long hearing on the matter, which had been initiated by local prosecutors in Colorado on behalf of the Atlanta prosecutors leading the probe.

Fulton County investigators have subpoenaed Ellis for grand jury testimony for August 25. However they have offered a range of dates on which she could appear in order to accommodate her schedule, Dawn Downs, a lawyer in the Larimer County district attorney's office, said in the hearing."

    Snip:

"Wooten said the investigation had five areas of interest in seeking her testimony: investigators' belief that she was involved in planning hearings before Georgia lawmakers where Trump allies pushed claims of mass election fraud; legal memos Ellis authored advising that then-Vice President Mike Pence could disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden's win; her social media posts promoting election fraud claims; her participation in media interviews where she made those allegations; and any "unique knowledge" she would have about how Trump's associates were coordinating.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is leading the special grand jury investigation, where among the crimes being probed are solicitation of election fraud, conspiracy and making false statements to state and local government bodies."

And we're surprised at this? Can't get Trump so go after his allies. If I was Rudi I would have walked into court with a suitcase labelled "Nuclear documents" covered with radiation warning stickers. But if anyone asked me about it I'd say "No it's ok, Hilary gave all the radioactive material to Putin".

Giuliani has no one to blame but himself. He knew Trump is a shady character who lied about the 2020 presidential election was rigged. Both Trump and Giuliani are not victims but are predators who have a reckless disregard not only for the truth but also for the laws of this country.

    "Ellis admits." LOL

'Former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis censured in Colorado for false election claims'
    BY: QUENTIN YOUNG - MARCH 8, 2023 5:05 PM
    Source: Colorado Newsline

Jenna Ellis, the Colorado attorney who was former President Donald Trump’s senior legal advisor as he tried to overturn his 2020 election loss, has been censured by a Colorado judge for misconduct.

The public censure order was signed Wednesday by Presiding Disciplinary Judge Bryon M. Large, who oversees lawyer discipline cases in Colorado.

As part of an agreement in the case, Ellis admits that multiple statements she made in late 2020 about the presidential election being stolen were “misrepresentations.”

...In an opinion accepting a censure agreement between Yates and Ellis, Large noted that Ellis has agreed that her statements about the election being stolen were misrepresentations, which he said were made “with at least a reckless state of mind.” Ellis also agreed that she, “though her conduct, undermined the American public’s confidence in the presidential election, violating her duty of candor to the public,” Large wrote, adding that “a selfish motive” and “a pattern of misconduct” were aggravating factors in the case.

    Here are the ten misrepresentations

    @JennaEllisEsq
agreed she made that led to a her being censured by the Colorado Bar.

Unfortunately for your beers, I believe it when I see it. The left has been pushing this witch hunt for like 6 years now, and so far hasn't gotten anything.

Hate is an ugly thing, and drives people to make irrational decisions, and isn't a good look.

The actual criminal investigations we are discussing are closer to 2 years old, not 6. And I'm sorry that you think that basic integrity is "hate." But, hey, I quit drinking, so at least you don't have to worry about those cracked beers.

Imagine how much money the left has wasted in failed after failed investigation without a single indictment.

They don't care though, it's all partisan cannon fodder.

Any cost to continue the politically driven narrative.

Oh I see. All the previous investigations don't count. This one is just based on the last 2 years.

    Integrity?

    Haha.

Right. The left and integrity. Sure.

The criminal investigations in which Trump was an actual target only started a couple of years ago. I don't know of any before then in which Giuliani was a criminal target. Right. Trump supporters and integrity. Sure.

This is all terribly confusing and perplexing. Since when can a judge censor or hold in contempt an attorney for something said outside of the courtroom???

Lawyers aren't exempt from being disciplined by the Bar Association in their state for their actions outside the courtroom.

Ellis was also part of Trump's legal team.

I thought it was a judge. Didn't know it was the Bar Association. My bad.

You were right about there being a judge.
The Bar Association has an appointed judges overseeing the professional conduct of lawyers.
The offense does not have to take place in a courtroom, a lawyer can be disbarred/disciplined for actions outside the court.
Ellis was one of Trumps many lawyers and I don't remember if she filed any motions for him but she was all over the media and Giuliani's side-kick.

"Bryon M. Large, Colorado’s presiding disciplinary judge, wrote in a six-page opinion signed Wednesday that Ellis had “repeatedly made misrepresentations on national television and on Twitter, undermining the American public’s confidence in the 2020 presidential election.”

I have a song for Trump, Giuliani and others who seem to be having a difficult time figuring out what the truth is:
