More money .. more stuff .. but you are conflating technological acumen with ability to buy lots of it. Both sides have good stuff . the Russia-China-Consortia best in class in missile technology -- anti ship - anti air - cruise missile . and so on.

These drones are messed up - completely changed the battlefield .. got to give the edge to the US in this one .. but, we have not seen the Chinese technology fielded.. and everyone is working on this technology .. which is just gong to get scarier and scarier.

Bottom line - what is being demonstrated by this war - is that the cost of projecting power has become unacceptibly high .. be it Russia .. or USA - NATO members . whomever.

 

OK, well if we are doing 'context' lets do it properly:

*The US invaded two nations half way around the world, one of them hundreds of miles from the nearest port;
*In both cases the US was able to completely occupy both nations for a long period of time;
*For most of the past 20 years the US fought these wars simultaneously plus smaller engagements in Syria;
*The total number of US deaths over the 20 year period for both wars combined was about 7000.

For contrast, in only 60 days:

*Russia has failed to successfully invade a nation with which it shares a long land border lacking any natural barriers to invasion;
*Courtesy of their prior membership of the USSR transport links such as roads & rail gauges effectively exist as a single system, theoretically assisting logistics;
*Several major invasion thrusts, including an attempt to take the capitol, have already been withdrawn;
*Russia has lost somewhere north of 15,000 soldiers, 500 tanks, 2500 other vehicles, 100 aircraft/helicopters, two major ships, 10 generals, several admirals, several ships captains and god knows how many lower ranks.
*Russian soldiers have repeatedly deserted, abandoned gear & generally failed even basic soldiering in large numbers;
*Sabotage inside Russia has crippled its chemical industry and damaged logistics dumps close to he border;
*Ukraine may now have more tanks in theatre than Russia and more than when the war started.

We haven't even got to the bit of the war where the insurgency begins in earnest - the bit the US couldn't win. Russia may actually lose this without a decent insurgency even having a chance to get going.

That is 'context', and it makes Russia look like the second rate nation it is.
