Try to make such a path with a museum collection and I will believe into US army capability for at least one second. :) These games played by the military are imitating war. Since Fencer made several passes near the ship it means that in war conditions the ship would have been sunk by it. The game is quite dangerous though and it better be not played, but it wasn't Russia who started it.

    ‘NATO violates Montreux Convention’

Last week the Russian military considered the USS Donald Cook manoeuvre part of a systematic build-up of naval forces.

“What we are seeing is that for the first time since 2008, NATO is creating a naval battle group outside Russian borders,” a Russian military source told Interfax news agency.

On April, 3, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused NATO of violating the Montreux Convention, which regulates the number ships that can enter the Black Sea, saying that “US warships have extended their deployment beyond the set terms a couple of times lately.”

According to the treaty, warships from non-Black Sea states can only stay in the basin for up to 21 days consecutively. USS Taylor spent 11 more than that in the region in February and March.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry expressed “bemusement” over the move.

“Turkey [which administers the treaty] did not inform us about the overstay. We have expressed our concern to the Turkish and US side in a verbal note,” said a statement on the ministry website.

This is just silly. What happened there is common cat and mouse. If that ship was actually threatened, the plane would have simply disappeared.

If it was noticed on time and the action was done and the only thing to do was to push the button and the rocket would shoot a plane down... Then yes. But it is only the crew or even the officer of Donald Cook who actually knows if his crew did everything all right. It already hapened with an older US ships. Kitty Hawk was "theoretically destroyed" on the 17th of October 2000.
The rumours say that russian nuclear submarine was accidentally attacked or just went into a following its course american attack submarine. The info is a rumour but still once the army starts to play these games it is not that big fun. Because war is becoming closer.

In war conditions the fencer would have never gotten close enough. Anyone with a minisule knowlege of military technology knows the fencer has a radar cross section of a school buss and the destroyers AESA radar would pick it up the second it crossed the horizon and shot it down

Well, I wish I could say that our military is sharper than that, but you *could* be right. Let's not forget the USS Stark. And it's just this kind of stupid thing that would get the whole thing going.
One way or another, I do believe that we're headed for the biggest conflict yet to happen in human history.

Very much a non-event. a military confrontation is not on the cards because a) the US will not intervene militarily to aid Ukraine b) the Russian military isn't up to a head-on collision with the US military. Neither side is ready for a military confrontation.

You can be right. Maybe once the war starts all the soldiers reboot to the program of staying active and faultless and all the radars don't have any confuses, because of the territory and all the enemies instead of upgrading their radar systems go to the storage room to install the oldest one. But maybe not.

The problem for sailors on Donald Cook has just been that radar and guidance systems "Aegis" were suppressed. The Su-24 had no weapons. But it had suppression system "Khibiny". Thus at the time of the 12 attacks Donald Cook was blind.

As a result, 27 crew members of Donald Cook wrote a letter of resignation from the US Navy. Looks like seppuku or cowardice.

It's a warning by the Russians not to continue the build up in the Black Sea. It should have been expected, but I guess we're testing the waters. :oldman:

    No.
These rumors are being spread yesterday on the internet. For your own peace of mind you should not believe it.

On the other hand, would you like to let me know other reason for the dismissal of 27 members of the crew?

I know what it means to Su-24 or F-16 pass at 100-200 meters. This rumble will wake the dead man.

USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. Armed with this ship, are including two 6-barrel storage "Phalanx" and up to 74 missiles RIM-66 SM-2 "Standard 2". For this warship Su-24 is terrible like a fly. It would seem that what is there to demoralize. They can plug "Aegis" and test it in close to real conditions against of potential enemy aircraft. According to U.S. sources it appears the plane was not armed. It's perfect training.

“This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with international protocols and previous agreements on the professional interaction between our militaries,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said. He's a very serious guy. Why get so excited over nothing.

Why not post your source on the 27 sailors? At this point its nothing more than something you wrote on an internet discussion forum.

Heres a facebok page a day before it hit your news
    https://www.facebook.com/cnn/posts/10152474134936509?stream_ref=10

"According to the leading news agencies in the world, last Saturday, April 12, 2014 onwards, the plane of Russian air force Su-24 "

Revealing that no one can find these leading news agencies with the same report. Obviously a Russian source that doesnt write very good in English.
