Not relevant. One can't be taught to be gay.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Who says she does?

    - - - Updated - - -

    not sure it would matter.

I agree. Tell it to Sally who implies that being gay means taking a path to get there.

    Who said she doesn't?

Maybe to her daughter it would matte.

    It isn't my place.

    Not relevant.

probably not. It doesn't matter to me that my parents tried to set me on a path to heterosexuality. Would she not love her child if she was?

    Mine either.

    Your opinion.

Or you're wrong and it probably does matter.

Sally Kohn never claimed that it was a choice. Your claim is unfounded.

I wish conservatives would stop creating false wars over false claims. Nobody is trying to make that girl gay.

How does one 'take a path' to being gay then?

What war? And you have no idea what Sally is doing.

    So why post this thread?

The person that doesn't say she plans to get her fairer to take her path is relevant to this discussion? How? If it is your opinion that such a person is, I would ask for your resin in thinking such a thing.

All parents have wants fit their children that don't happen. That doesn't matter. If it does explain how it does.

Why not? Sally decided to make her business public. Why?

Isn't the thread in the right folder? And I think it is within the rules of the forum to offer my POV on this.

Neither one of us know what Sally will do and speculating one way or the other is fair.

It's like the path to citizenship. One day, I hope they merge so that immigrants can become gay and American at the same time.

I know that she's not trying to make her daughter gay.

You told me to tell Sally that people cannot be encouraged into being homosexual. I told you it wasn't my place and you said it wasn't yours either. You are diving your nose in it again. So is it your place or is it not? What's with the bible talk?

It's still her daughter and she still knows better than you what is right for her daughter.

There was no dodge. I notice you didn't address any of the points I made, so you're the one dodging, actually. Not all paths are chosen, despite your belief to the contrary; I suppose you must think that children choose to be born into poverty, or to mothers who take drugs while pregnant, etc.

Kohn isn't implying what you're inferring. You are wrong - deal with that.

So in your mind, the absence of a statement negating some course of action = taking that action. Illogical.

Says the person presuming to know that she's going to manipulate her child into being a lesbian. Come back when you have an actual, well-reasoned argument to make, not BS speculation.

Because you'll have to ask her what, if anything, she may or may not do to get her daughter to follow her 'path'. And you seem angry, fix it. What Bible talk?

I didn't say I know better than her. I think it is fair to speculate that she may try to 'reprogram' her daughter as some parents have tried to do with their gay child to 'make them straight'.

    - - - Updated - - -

So you're saying one can choose to be gay.

You know nothing of the kind.

In my mind, anything is possible. How about you?

Hey, Sally is the one preferring her daughter is gay.

I disagree. Paths are chosen. So Sally is implying that being gay is a choice.

I already said it isn't my place. Why do I seem angry to you? Because I'm asking you about your contradictory statements?

I don't know why you want to think that.

The question has been answered multiple times. It is clear that several of us don't think a person chooses or can be taught to have a particular orientation - and more to the point - several of us have stated in clear terms that we don't read in Sally's writing anything that suggests she thinks differently.

If you would drop your bias, you would see that the whole point of the story is to question the idea that parents - gay or straight - should automatically want their child to be straight. It has nothing to do with her trying to force her child down some path of gayness. Your further bias is that you think all paths are chosen. Clearly they are not, and if you would stop automatically looking for a 'gotcha' in anything a gay person says or writes, maybe you could see that Kohn's story actually illustrates that orientation isn't a choice. If you really think Sally Kohn doesn't get that, then I judge you to be incapable of reading the article objectively.

You are seeing what you want to see, not what is actually there. You are cherry-picking a phrase here or there, giving it your own spin, and then claiming it's what the author said, when she never did. I therefore judge your thread to be founded in dishonesty. It amounts to a troll not only of Kohn, but ultimately of gay people more generally.

    - - - Updated - - -

She didn't imply that. You're the one who started a thread based on a biased interpretation of something someone else wrote. So ultimately, it does become about you and your prejudices.

Anyone can. The question is whether that inference is honest, or biased. Clearly, yours is biased.

    ...which she didn't.

    ...a desire that is irrelevant.

It isn't fair when you arrive there from a point of such obvious anti-gay bias.

I don't believe she does, and I don't see that in what she wrote.

    Not a reasonable assumption.

Your OP certainly had no problem speculating on what you think she will do, though.

Prove it. If she didn't say that (and she didn't), then you are projecting your own opinion onto what she wrote.

Doesn't matter how many times you repeat this garbage - you aren't going to be able to rewrite the article to convince us that it says something it doesn't.

Your dishonest speculation about me is noted and rejected.

Sure she did IMO.She saud she was hoping that her daughter would follow in her 'path'. Paths are choices.

Oh it is very relevant since she decided to make it public.

Show me where I said the daughter should be straight or gay. Show me where I said being gay is wrong. Good luck.

Not the way you would like us to think, that's for sure.

Neither do you, much as you'd like us to think otherwise, despite your protestations to the contrary.

Yes! I am entitled to my opinion. She wants her daughter on her 'path'.

I already did. a Path is a choice. Prove otherwise.

Your opinion is noted. So is mine which is just as relevant as yours.

It's really a loaded question, or hyperbole, when somebody accuses their opponents of wanting the subject to fall to the fate they have arbitrarily determined is inevitable, it's too trick the person into defending themselves.

    It's dishonest debate strategy.

Like purple who are arguing for affirmative action, they would say "so you want black women to be discriminated against?"

He did the exact same thing.

I'm not telling anyone what to think. You are.

Non responsive. How does one take a 'path' to being gay?

There it is. This is a strange notion of what constitutes fairness. It also illustrates for us exactly where this mindset comes from - the idea that people's orientation can be "reprogrammed".

So I'm going to ask you a question that needs only a 'yes' or 'no' answer: Do you believe that it's possible for a person's orientation to be reprogrammed? No elaboration required. A simple 'yes' or 'no' will do.
