There are other sources supporting Krivenko's claim and after initially denying that Russian troops were operating in eastern Ukraine Putin later admitted that they were.

As for why you don't hear much about it, this should offer a partial explanation...

Vladimir Putin declares all Russian military deaths state secrets
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...res-all-russian-military-deaths-state-secrets

The assassination of Boris Nemtsov while he was beginning work on "Putin.War" may have had a chilling effect, as well...

I don't think you can "plague" a forum with something that we've been talking about for months over in the Current Events section, Ninian. As for this latest "revelation", we've been talking about that in Current Events all day long...

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...l-for-‘ratings’.508428/page-5#post-1067673904

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...a-narrative-“bullsh-t.508438/#post-1067673037

...we could have told you that segments of our media have been dishonest and sloppy a long time ago.

By the way, that's the network that President Trump has been berating for its fake news...

Well, again - article claims decree inplies secrecy of losses of RF military in time of peace, while it implies secrecy of losses in peace time in special operations.

We may assume it is related to conflict of Ukraine. But again - state secrecy would not stop relatives of people, political opposition, and non-governmental organisations.

As for Nemtsov - he had plenty of supporters. If there was something to talk about - they would've spoke. He had plenty of enemies, had plently of conflicts with Kremlin and not just Kremlin.

His death outraged people. Basically, it created more opposition to current Government and lessened it's support, and you say that it had chilling effect? Opposite. And if there was real topic of our soldiers fighting in Ukraine - people would've spoke about it.

This will be a new excuse. CNN is lying, but all other American media are telling the truth.

Well, does not stopped many of other users on this forum from relying on CNN articles about my country. For me it looks as yet another argument in favor of fact checking and critical thinking.

Matthew, the reason this Ninian has a crappy attitude is that, they display atypical moskali sovok attitude, they will argue for the sake of arguing, whether they make any sense or not, have a case, or facts. Case in point I asked this account to provide details that muscovite troops are NOT in Ukraine, all I get is useless data, and made up drivel, it's a petulant child you're dealing with.:))).

It's estimated that over 2,000 Russian mercenaries died in the Donbas. The modern Ukrainians are the descendants of the Zaporozhian Cossacks and they are natural fighters. Central Ukraine used to be a major Cossack territory called the Zaporozhian Host (Sich) until 1775, when it was dismantled by Catherine the Great (Kissinger 2015:56). The Zaporozhian Host is now reduced to Zaporizhia Oblast, an oblast (province) of southern Ukraine, and its capital is Zaporizhzhia. Cossacks have taken an active part in many of the conflicts after the disintegration of the Soviet Union such as: the Georgian–Abkhazian conflict, the Georgian–Ossetian conflict, the First Chechen War, the Second Chechen War, and the ongoing unrest in Ukraine.

So what is your attitude on Putin? The majority here feel he is a dictator based on previous threads. Do you disagree? You danced around that question so I will assume you support an evil dictator.

Russia has never been a beacon of light and is full of problems. You act like Russia can do no wrong. News fact. Russia is not perfect and it is not impossible that Russia left dead soldiers in unmarked graves as the photographs show. You can't say you know every single thing your army does. Putin is evil and does everything he can to hide it from the world.

I started a thread asking if Putin was a dictator a while back when I thought it was better to have good relations with Russia. Most everyone said Putin was a dictator. The fact is you are defending a country that has a leader like Putin and that is sad.

Actually, I quite directly answered it on this forum several times. Not a zealous fan, but recognise that he is not only polician capable of questionable facts in my country, and that he, at very least, gave the country stability he promised. Time to let him go, move on and start progressing - but what done is done, and country is not so bad. That's first.

We speak not about Putin's persona, we speak there about possibility of presence of RF military in Ukraine. As I pointed above - topic that I consider being serious, and to argumentation of which I demand dedication and adult rationality.

And if you do not like me defending my country and people, and demanding the serious judgement not based on childish "good and evil" attitude - then get used to it, because I am not changing my position.

And if you REALLY want to have a wide and long discussion about Putin, of what and why I think about him - be welcome to have conversation in private messages to not flood forum with off-top.

Otherwise - do not try to make equasion between being a patriot and being a supporter of one or another politician. My country have been there for over millenia, did fantastic things, and as ex-part of USSR shares the honor of being country that sent first human to space. So roll that "beacon of light" stuff and stuff.

What you're peddling are distractions and deflections, Eadora, and I'm not even remotely interested.

I don't care if you live in my country, your country or Russia - our governments have a solemn obligation to look after the men and women who serve our countries as well as the families of those servicemen and women. There's nothing more dishonorable a politician can do than betray that trust for their own self-aggrandizement and expedience. Furthermore, I haven't singled out Putin for betraying that trust - I've trashed the leaders in my country for doing the same, and it's one of the main reasons why I didn't vote for Hillary Clinton in our last election. When I watched Patricia Smith's speech at the RNC it made my blood boil, and Obama is just as guilty as Clinton. It was his decision to get led around by the nose by your leaders in Europe and get our country involved in that fiasco in Libya, and it was his responsibility to look after our diplomatic personnel in a country that he helped turn into an anarchic, jihadist-infested **** hole that remains a failed state to this day. He didn't and they're dead.

You should be agreeing with me on this instead of launching into another off-topic bender that I'm not going to waste my time reading. While I don't support Russia's latest exercise in revanchist aggression, I'm not going to blame Russia's soldiers for a decision that they didn't take. That decision is on Russia's civilian political leadership, i.e., Vlad the Invader.

We've been over this before, Crayola Kid - AE wasn't my nick. I used the one I use here before I got banned for posting a thread on the 1999 Moscow apartment bombings and then later I switched to the Latin name of my country's national symbol. You used to call me Hal for short - what's up with the short term memory loss?

Vlad was not going to let Crimea go and that is that but, this is only a part of the story.

Ukraine has many areas dominated by Russians. This is a related but different fight. Unless on understands what was happening to Russian communities in Ukraine under the new regime (which by many accounts is neofascist) it is difficult to comment intelligently.

There is a civil war going on - that much we know. Who are the good guys and who are the bad (sans Crimea which is a different kettle of fish) that is a much tougher call.

Well, the fair point still stands - it is illegal for our army to be there. It can be explained, but not excused.

Does not makes politicians in Kiev being right - so far they screwed up their own country to point of civil war, and possibly actually rigged post-coup elections. But! - hopefully they will get obliterated by opposition on upcoming elections and ukrainians will get government interested in solving this mess without further bloodshed.

I am not sure whether you are referring to Crimea or the rest of Ukraine. (illegal for our army to be there).

These are two separate issues. Russia was not giving up it's strategic navel port in Crimea to NATO. Everyone knew this. There was no excuse for NATO to be crossing this Red line that was communicated to all the NATO leaders in no uncertain terms.

What was a joke was the various leaders of NATO feigning ignorance after the fact "What did we do ?".

The question of the civil unrest in the rest of Ukraine is a somewhat related but, separate issue. In general I am against a nation state providing arms to insurgents (or sending in soldiers) in a different sovereign nation.

As stated in my post - the civil unrest situation is complicated and while I probably know a whole lot more than most who are commenting, it is not enough to speak intelligently or .. going even further to pick sides.

Well, nobody stops from learning more about situation in Ukraine, after all. Quite opposite - constant discussion over it is a good stimul to story it closer. I am not exactly picking sides, but what Turchinov did I highly disapprove. The actions of Poroshenko during the coal supply crisis this spring, that I watched pretty much closely, disappointed me greatly too. Things the did and do do not look like something directed to good of country.

I'm glad to hear that, Ninian, because ultimately the duty our leaders have to our servicemen and women is a commitment that we the people make to those who put their lives on the line to defend us and our countries. Because of that, it's up to us to make sure that our representatives uphold our commitment and hold them accountable when they don't. The situation with the health system at our Veterans Administration is a classic example of the failure to uphold that commitment and I'm glad that our Congress and President have finally done something to correct that unacceptable situation:
