Steering away from the debate over women driving in Saudi Arabia, a religious authority announced this week that Saudi women are allowed to cruise on bikes and buggies.

But women will be free to drive under one condition: a male relative or guardian has to be present with them while they ride a bike, Saudi daily al-Yaum reported on Monday. However, the newspaper did not clarify how or from where the men will be supervising the women.

“Women are free to ride bikes in parks, seafronts, among other areas, providing that they are wearing fully modest dress and a male guardian has to be present in case of falls or accidents,” the newspaper reported, quoting an unnamed source from the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

I do not know if we should laugh or cry ..................

Not really this weird. Saudi Arabia takes the cake. Where else have they banned boxes of chocolate in the shape of a heart and teddy bears who say "I love you"?

Maybe are they allowed to wear a motorcycle helmet instead as long as it's tinted?

It's not the Muslim way of life.. Saudi Arabia just happens to be run by oppressive lunatics.

It doesn't.. I think you've got me mixed up with the other guy. I'm agreeing with you by pointing out how unique Saudi Arabia is.

Saudi Religious Police Work to Improve Image
March 27, 2013 - In January 2012, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia dismissed the head of the powerful religious police and replaced him with a reported moderate — a move designed to appease growing complaints about abuses of power by a much-feared group known as the mutaween.

Isn't Saudi Arabia the place every good Muslim is supposed to visit? Isn't it the center of the Muslim faith?

the amazing thing is they put these restrictions on the women and say they must be with a man in case they fall off or are injured BUT!!! you know it is not true at all!

If it were they would not buy their little kids quad bikes with no helmets and allow them to race up and down busy roads and the teenagers high powered cars that they race recklessly on the highways unsupervised all day long!

Ashura is Shia by the way

It is one of the reasons the rest of the Muslim world think they are crazy.

These are the Christian version of the Shia who were doing THIS last week at their Easter in Filipines
